ORGANISED! We didn't play particularly well today, but we did a job. Players in their natural positions playing to a plan and pattern. Simples! O'Toole looked a good acquisition..got stuck in and drove forward. Hitchcock ran around a lot as required. Mildenhall was just ok...got away with a few nervous moments, and we're back to a goalie who hoofs the ball down the middle...but he'll do. Parkes and Bolger at CB, as it should be; ditto Lee Brown at LB. Great reception for Ward. Liked the way he shook Feeney's hand when he was subbed....gentleman. Good to see youngsters on the bench and Harding given some matchtime. Two thumping goals...great to see the net bulge! Most satisfactory! Spirit and organisation got us through...well done lads.
We've needed someone like O'Toole for a while.Experienced and steady. Important result today. Who'd be a manager!!
we showed spirit, passion and fight. this has been missing for a very long time! we were solid as a team defending from the front, hitchcock chasing everything up front creating pressure. thought was a mistake playing hitchcock up on his own who hasnt scored a single goal in 1st team football. but he played the role really well and ran all game getting involved wherever he could. so many times plymouth had the ball in a forward position but we kept pushing them back and back where we defended in numbers and didnt give them any time. we didnt lack anything in midfield. norburn gave away the ball a lot but i dont blame him for this. his passing was good but the players around him were slow off the mark. o'toole was exactky what we needed. thought he was excellent and deserved the man of the match. thought we were composed and showed class a lot of the time in midfield. been along time since i was able to praise the midfield. i thought the performance was good but we did struggle to hang on near during the 2nd half and i had a bad feeling we would end up losing 3-2 again like the last 2 seasons. under MM after conceding we would of gone on and conceded again. but our defending was much better. happy days.
Brilliant! So glad the result was good. Hopefullythe boost the boys need Johnny Ward's Blue and WHite Army
well played the gas, onwards and upwards. we had our 1st away win today, doing the double over coventry city.
Great result, dont agree completely with everthing above but respect everyones views, today was about a positive result not how it was achieved, seen enough to encourage me we are going in the right direction at this moment in time. Roll on Saturday, a very different challange and one that I would settle for a point now.
It seems our loss is your gain in terms of O'Toole, a good player who should be playing higher than League One; he’s been a tad unlucky with injuries here. Definitely the type of player we need for own battle against relegation, which John Ward left us in and his assistant now seems determined to finish.
would love to keep the guy just after seeing him once. but i dont think he will be with us after his loan finishes. listening to his interview, he sounded like we were only helping him gain match fitness and get minutes under his belt and nothing else.
he did say that he will do his part and his best and bring 100% in every game involved to help us while he is here. he said he has never been in a relegation battle. even this season with colchester who are struggling, where he hasnt been playing he hasnt been part of a relegation battle. so he said its a good experience for him.
Going on yesterdays performance you have to say that if a player of that calibur had have been signed in the summer along with one or two others we wouldnt be where we are now, but this is typical Bristol Rovers we always start spending to avoid trouble, it would be nice to spend to achieve for once.
