Some thoughts on Turkey from Martin Brundle, many of which have been discussed on not606 already: He's glad to see the back of Legard (lit. "enjoying everything... not least working with DC") Quite a strong opinion on Vettel's dominance - "a miserable scenario" Generally, or perhaps reluctantly, in favour of DRS as a "work in progress" [it's been written into the 2013 rulebook, so failing some catastrophic incident caused by the system itself I expect its use to be more marginal and much improved later this season and certainly next] Leaving DC in charge of monitoring on-track action while Brundle does the recaps is "like asking an eight-year old to mind the sweet shop" 80 pit stops "frankly is too many" not least because "qualifying is being seriously spoiled" Feels sad for Schumi He avoids any comment on McLaren's performance, including Button's 'wrong' strategy - I think some members here think Brundle and Coulthard are overly biased towards Button, so that's interesting. It's not a revelatory column but I think it's good to get his opinion following some reflection rather than immediately after the finish on the F1 Forum.
I'd agree that he seems protective towards McLaren and perhaps Button - but it appears to be merely wanting Britain to do well.
Martin Brundle is a very decent human being and rarely has a bad word to say about anyone (mostly because he will not be drawn on the subject of the alien: Legard). Brundle is a Brit' and we have a British team with two British drivers, so it's not surprising that he hopes for them to do well. After all, don't British football commentators want British teams to do well in international matches? - In spite of this, he is as even handed as anyone can reasonably expect, and I think the perception of deliberate bias is misplaced in any case. I also agree with him about the racing and the various gadgetry. In particular I agree with his view on what I have previously described as "cardboard tyres": two stops should be a realistic option to battle against three-ers, for most races. If the tyres were more durable we could have DRS being used by any driver within [a second of] a car ahead, anywhere on the circuit and have roughly the same amount of overtaking, but the DRS slot should be made narrower so that the speed differential is reduced. That's enough for now, other than to say that I think he's doing a great job with a very considerable work-load, yet he still manages to keep his commentary light-hearted, informative and lively. Well done sport! [Edit]
That's different, an international football team are representing their country, as are rugby teams and the Olympic teams. F1 drivers, tennis players etc. represent themselves, therefore the commentary should be unbiased. That said I haven't seen any bias towards the McLaren pair. The McLarens, Red Bulls, Alonso, Schumacher, Kobayashi and di Resta perhaps get more focussed coverage than the rest, but the BBC can't show interviews with every driver, team principle and designer, so they focus on the ones who generate most interest, which is completely understandable.
