Sad to see hm go as regardless of the situation he has stuck with PAFC for 4 years.....having spoke to him on a few occasions he has always wanted the club to do well- sadly he hasn't been able to motivate the players to produce on the field, so his departure was inevitable. There are a few good players at the club so i guess it is just a matter of getting the right person in. Given the lack of football management expertise at the club it will be an interesting appointment process. I guess O'driscal would get my vote but am open to suggestions. As long as the president buffoon has no input we should make the correct choice. James Brent needs help to make the correct selection and am sure he will choose his counsels carefully-half his problem is the lack of available successful managers that will be interested. oh and there is no extra money to entice anyone in with or to strengthen the squad with (unless someone buys Luke Young for lots as rumored)
Quite. As he said, he tried his best and fought through a lot of pressure. anyone that was questioning his loyalty to the club should watch that video.
Yes GA he didn't have to face the reporting pack at that moment live on camera........and when he nearly broke down and needed a few moments to compose himself....said that he wanted to continue the interview....even when one reporter gave him the opportunity to stop the interview there and then.....well done Carl......enjoy your time away from football with your family and one day you might get an easier chance in management than trhis poisoned chalice of a job. I for one wanted you out of the job......but not to be attacked like some are doing even after you have been sacked.......just read some of the bile on other sites, not necessary.
Why should the buffoon as president have a say? Young has been talked about with other clubs. wil not say to much as his dad is a friend and does not say to much to be honest.. Hope fully he stays put for a while.. Should have signed his dad also!!
joe.......are you referring to Chris Webb as "the buffoon".....as club president he would be expected to possibly say something on the sacking of Carl Fletcher. My views of Carl as a manager have been well documented on here.......as a person I have no personal Knowledge of Carl........but I will go along with what Chris Webb has to say and agree that he did his best in a difficult situation.......it went on too long personally.......but Brent stuck with him until after the Rovers game then did what was necessary. As for Young, he has found this season difficult.....and if he is on the radar at present so be it.......if we get a good price for him then we will have to consider it.
I think Carl Fletcher's interview was very dignified, it seems he did his best - it just wasn't good enough. However he did help keep us up last season and deserved his 1/2 season to prove himself. Despite my calls for him to go earlier I do believe that now was the right time for him to go. He was brave indeed to go ahead with the interview and for that he has my respect. I wish him well whatever he decides to do.
I don't think anyone wishes him ill in the future they just wished he wasn't here. Now comes the "who will it be" week with every name under the sun being trotted out. I have a feeling it might be Keith Hill but will have to wait like everyone else.
i must say that i thought both sides played ok and certainly didnt look like a 2 teams struggling at the wrong end of league 2. when you scored i thought here we go, another 2-0 up at half time and you come back and win 3-2. shame you got rid of your manager. teams often do well with a new manager. we cant afford for you lot to start doing well
Poor Fletch be damned. Poor me for having to sit through the crud I've had to sit through for too long. I don't wish him ill at all but I'm not going to feel sorry for him. He got paid very well for failure like far too many in this Country. He got what he should have got some time ago, the push. There were others who got the push from Argyle who were not paid anything like what he was. I feel sorry for them. Shows his naivety to the end by doing an interview in the first place.
Sensible that is very harsh for you, you may well be sensible but sensitive you most definately are not - you are steriotypically male with that response. I had an overwhelming urge to give him a hug. Maybe it was a touch naive to go ahead with the interview but at least he had the balls to.
Why is it harsh? The man got paid very well, considerably more than you get paid, for failure. How long do you think you would last in a job if you were that bad at it? So he appeared infront of a camera and looked upset. The others made redundant didn't get that opportunity. It's got nothing to do with me being male. I have been known to shed a tear or two at certain things in my time but sorry this isn't one of them. We, or most of us, wanted him gone. Bit hypocritical to blub when it happens. I don't wish him any ill as I've said but I don't wish him back again.
one thing he did achieve is a better philosophy of football. defensively we have been the football league punchline, but i've seen an improvement since the relegation domino effect. shame we never came off as a good defensive unit and dont have someone capable of scoring.
Obviously he tried his best in his own way...maybe had been better off not hanging up his boots a little early...think he sure loved the club!
