Do you think not 606 is a little to sterile in whatââ¬â¢s allowed on this forum? I know WUM`s can be a pain in the back side. (Minging comes to mind as he is just childish but was also so easy just to ignore) but they also help stimulate lively debate, do we really want to be all nicey nicey with our so called rivals? For me if you take that away its just becomes a question and answer forum and rather muted, after all on the Southampton fc page we are all fairly like mind in that we follow the same team! For example I had a post with ââ¬Ådirty skateââ¬Â in the title which was only reflecting on the words of the song that the posting was about and it was deleted! No swear words there but it was deemed offensive! For years we have been called scummers and stains but not once have I ever felt offended ......... Have you? I think this is a bit naive as its nowhere near reflects real life and will stop a lot of good articles being published, surely football is not just about what happens on the pitch its about rivalries, teasing bragging rights and banter? Should these pages be allowed to reflect this? In a free society is it right to be so censored on a forum just because one person who has some power not agreeing with the poster?
I think we have our fair of disagreements on here between ourselves (Harding comes to mind ) And besides, I come on Saints boards/forums to talk about Saints - not to talk about Pompey.
Banter is fine but some do tend to go a bit too far and use less than acceptable reference to disagree or score a point.
Nothing wrong with banter and humour - I haven't seen much of either so far but we are in a self-congratulatory mode and the blue few are probably keeping their heads down. We don't want to trawl through threads containing nothing but personal abuse though as was often the case on BBC 606.
Posters from other clubs can be fun and I also liked the banter of the original 606 , perhaps it will develop into that as it gets more established. But if we have to rely on WUMs for our entertainment, then things are in a poor state. Maybe it's up to us to make this site interesting ourselves.
I think the big question for the not606 bosses is where do they get a continuing input of new members from. The real 606 had some pretty dire points but the best thing about it was that people would read the BBC website and see 606, you can't beat association with a massive news website like that and it contributed to debate. The season has finished (or nearly for Prem teams) and presumably there will not be too much regular football discussion in the Summer. The guys who are in charge need to consider how they will make sure that existing members will come back in September and how they will expand their membership base, eg keeping the site exposed to advertising etc.
Maybe a private message to the mods could sort that easily enough. I think this is a vast improvement on the old site, not least because you can have a dialogue with the mods. I find that I can get away with a lot more than on 606; I got a post rejected on the BBC site for, I can only think, including the word "merchant"!!! Banter is not sterile, but there is a big difference between that and personal insults or childish name calling. There is plenty of opportunity for a better class of sledging, and I really appreciate that.
Witty banter can be fun but there is a line that shouldn't be crossed. Personal abuse is unacceptable. Some of our local rivals post thought provoking comments. Some mock in an acceptable way. Some of the posters on 606 were beyond the pale and have no place here. Generally speaking, if it is done in humour it is ok. I would not like being unable to have a go back. Would you? I expect the forum to go quiet for a while, at least until the rumours start. For now I am happy to bask in our success. COYS
As the owner (That sounds pretentious) of the songs thread I only requested it to be a sticky so new comers can come and look at the songs and know whats happening plus new ones will be added with the arrival of more players and ideas. Its certainly helped me out and I expect a few others. Without sounding hypocritical I do agree the promotion party one should go though
How about this for an idea then? We could have a similar thread on both boards, where you could go, to be as rude as you wanted to be, to each other, without fear of retribution, but ONLY, on that one thread, anywhere else and you are definitely in the proverbial. Call it something like Enter if you dare?! Or, Only for the strong of constitution, perhaps. Then people could join in the abuse, or leave it well alone (my choice) Also, if two or more start to get a bit rowdy on a thread, the others could say, "hey, take it to the naughty thread you guys" and they could go there, and express themselves as enthusiastically as they liked. What do you reckon?
I was around but other things had my attention just a very occasional glance at the board. Was not in a position to clean up the sticky's. To be honest I thought my collegue would do it. Unfortunately it turn out he was in the same boat as me. Sorry guys all cleaned up now I think.
Could you not do that on the chatbox and leave the other site to those that do not want to tear each other apart?
