To be fair, i listened on the radio as all the streams were cack. Jut generally going on what he usually does, holds the ball up and passes backwards, AKA, what he's meant to do. I only slate when its waranted, which i think the shot was! Never said i was criticising, just saying 81% could be artificially high, id rather it was 20% but of the 20 passes he attempted 4 goals were scored. Basically, pass percentage doesnt mean too much, as there is a case of teams passing sidewards for 30 minutes and acheiving nothing, something which we have been guilty of this season. Gives nice stats, but pretty poor results!
I can only base my judgment on Solent commentary but seemed as if Guly made a real contribution yesterday. He did apparently miss a clear goal chance but Kenwyne Jones missed one in the Saints box so I can't hang any blame on Guly for us snatching a draw from a win. IMO the reason we lost the lead was we tried to buckle down and hold on to it instead of continuing to push their defence to try and extend it.
Guly put the cross in for our first. On the money, fantastic ball. Worth his place in the team if that had been all he did yesterday, which it wasn't by a long way.
Couldn't fault guly today, he made a couple of miniscule mistakes... But his work rate and determination was great to see!!
Thought his defensive contribution was superb, even if Sagna did have a bit of a nightmare. It's just his luck that it had to be him who scored the OG. Just like the miss against Stoke, that will be what the anti-Guly parade focus on, rather than his magnificent defensive work. Neither Lallana nor Ramirez would have worked that hard defensively at LM.
He did well. I think Vermaelen would have scored if he hadn't tried to clear it. Was the Ramirez disallowed goal a foul? Not seen a replay. I presumed it was given offside at first but realised after it was a foul given
Really good game, not even gonna think about the og, just one of those things you have to try and clear it and accidents happen. But that is two good performances and you can hear the fans warming to him, but shows how fickle some fans are
One thing that struck me alongside his defensive shift and work rate, is how very seldom he gives possession away or misplaces a pass. As you say, the morons (see the Official Saints Facebook page for details) will just talk about the OG. Great game from him and really supports Shaw well.
