Nicolas Isimat-Mirin linked (a CB)

The Newcastle journal is reporting this morning that it is their understanding that Newcastle have made an offer for 21 year-old French U21 center-back Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, and certainly we’ve been heavily linked with this player over the last week or so.

Isimat-Mirin plays for Valenciennes in the French first division and he has played 5 times for the France U20 side and 3 times for the U21 side and he tuned 21 in November, so he is an up and coming youngster.

His French club are short of cash and seem willing to sell their player this month, although Liverpool were thought to be in the lead for the player.

However, one advantage Newcastle have when a club is short of cash is they play for the player up front in cash, and that allows Newcastle to pay a little bit less than the competition but still offer a good deal to the selling club.

And the youngster has only eighteen months left on the three year contract he signed for Valenciennes in 2011, a year after he moved to Valenciennes from Rennes.

A report in Le 10 Sport a few days ago said that Liverpool were looking to buy the 21 year old in January, but then loan him back to Valenciennes for the rest of the season, and that’s a deal that could interest his club.

Isimat-Mirin is valued somewhere around £4M, and probably less than that – but it’s good to hear that Newcastle have put in what looks to be the first bid form any club for the top French youngster.

It looks like Newcastle will tie up a deal for french International right back Mathieu Debuchy later this week, after a fee around 5M has been agreed with his club Lille, and now they also want to bring in a center-back.

Isimat-Mirin made his debut for Valenciennes in 2010, and he has played– and he has appeared 68 times for his current club and scored 3 goals.

 

Has he been seen in Jesmond yet?

 

He sounds like a good lad with plenty of ability. If he's the one then we have to trust carr and co that he can come in and do the business. Certainly seems to be highly rated.

Does anyone know whether Seb Bassong had played U21 for France before he came to us?

 

Linked quite heavily with us too - I imagine because Carra is on the way. We have enough young talent however.

Speculate to accumulate, it would be nice if Pard's had a list of players he'd like to bring in and MA gave him the go ahead to go out and get them.
