Bristol Rovers have today secured the services of striker Tom Hitchcock from Premiership side Queens Park Rangers. http://www.bristolrovers.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=303912
10 1st team appearances for plymouth which 5 was from the bench and scored ZERO goals. this doesnt fill me with confidence. however he was with blackburn last season and in the summer signed for qpr moving back up to the prem following blackburns relegation. that itself is a great achievement for a young lad. he must have something about him to move upwards. plus being a regular scorer for qpr reserves shows he knows where the net is. this link shows he has been training with qpr's 1st team in recent months as well so hopefully he has picked up a thing or 2 from learning from them http://www1.skysports.com/football/...set-to-join-Bristol-Rovers-on-loan-next-month
ok, so our strikers are..... hitchcock - lack of experience and on loan richards - not a regular starter and he plays more out on RW than up front anyinsah - same as richards, not a regular starter and he plays more out on the wing than up front clarkson - most experienced striker we have but currently out injured and been played in midfield harrold - injured long term i really hope hitchcock aint the only striker that comes in the door. riordan and eaves have gone so hopefully hitchcock is riordans replacement as hitchcock surely cant be worse than riordan!
There are not going to be any great shakes out there come Jan, so this will probable be as good as it gets for us, would settle for this if by any chance we could get Eaves back to play along side the lad.
Surely we could have signed CISSE not Alfreds brother Physco Great to see that Wardy has as CJ mentioned brought in some experience conference here we come. COR
Will Hoskins is not the most popular player at Brighton and free from contract in the summer. We know he is good enough,. I wish we could at least borrow him back!!
i have said it before, you need terry gornell. out on loan to rochdale until 5.1.13. scored 5 for them in 6 games. we may want him back but may sell for circa 150k
In my opinion as it stands this is now the most important roll which requires filling, the young lad who started up front today is not the answer as long as he is left as a lone front man, requires a player along side him, I would have played Richards from start today, the lad ran his socks off but looked a rookie and shirked several 50/50 balls, not what is required, I feel Richards would have adapted better to the situation today plus he is ours.
i mentioned on the other thread that i thought it was a mistake to play hitchcock up front on his own. never scored a league goal and were in a relegation fight and he has only played 10 league games (5 of them was from the bench) i thought that was bad idea. however i thought he did better than what most strikers have done for us when they played the lone role. i was impressed with him. i dont think he should be kept in that role for every game but it worked for me today against what i expected. but it was against another struggling side. would he be as good against the top sides? and im no fan of 451 especially at home. he certainly aint the answer for us as a striker and i fully expect an experience striker to be in the door asap.
Lets hope so as both goals today were fortunate on the face of it as they came from corners which we dont usually produce from, as for chances from open play we achieved not very much at all, thats got to change and fast!!
true. you can tell ward was concentrating on defence than attack since he has been here. seeing our goals conceded column shows this needs working on. wards post match interview said this and i seen improvements in defending today. so it shows the importance that we get our set pieces right. we got it right today. did you see that penalty shout where richards got brought down near the end? i was in the blackthorn end and it to me looked a pen but it was right in front of the ref and he obviously didnt give it. did you see it?
Will Hoskins is actually a good shout-Agree however do not think he would drop down to our level again. Where is Nathan Ellington these days? in a retirement home As for the new striker worked hard a little on the short side difficult to guage how good he is given we only played 1 up front agree Richards should have played although he looked off the pace when he came on. Perhaps the new striker will link well with Clarkson, thought Ollie played well with Lund and OToole. Our defence looked better bodes well for the future if we keep Bolger as they are a young outfit and will only get better. Anyinsah looked poor until he scored a cracker still not convinced he should start. We def need a big experienced striker up front what about bringing Nicholson back for another crack he loved Rovers. COR
Thing is Anyinsah is about the only dangerous right sided player we have at the club, even if he only turns it on when he feels like it. He needs to start cuz even if he is ****e, he is still better than any other option really
