I think you're looking for differences that don't exist. They are very much in the same mould. Campbell setting the Wembley winning goal up was very Aluko-esque.
You make some good points glennon, I'd be happy with Graham, Austin etc but, Steve Bruce has said he wants FC. That is all. As long as we get a proper CF in, I'm happy.
We currently have a forward that starts and doesn't score and are having to play a midfielder up top , in this side Campbell would tear this league a new one !
I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm not saying you're right but good managers have a knack of averting your attention away from what they're actually doing by leading you down the wrong path. Bad managers spout to the press about their plans. (If we sign FC I'll be the first to admit I'm a know-nowt knobhead)
as long as the goal counts that's all that matters so , not that I'm putting him I the same class but was Michael Owen a goal poacher or a scrounge
I've gone about Campbell enough on here, if he's fit and raring to go he will be a fantastic signing for us if it came off, goals and assists a plenty. If he's being used as a 'smokescreen' for other signings I'm not so sure, can't see the point in that really as we still have to get the other players regardless. I'd guess theres quite a few clubs after the same players and our league position is a great bargaining chip right now.
Do we need a targetman or do we need somebody who times their runs well, Seems alot of crosses Elmo and Brady whip in are low and Hard not sure a big bulk would suit, Maybe somebody whos nippy and can finish who can use pace to get onto this service.
He's only twenty-five years old for gods sake, you're making out that because he's had some injury problems that he will never be the same player again, quite unbelievable! FC has not even reached his peak yet, he will go on to have a superb career, whether or not that will be with us is the only subject that's open to debate. Get a grip Glennon you fat bastard
If you want to see the type of player we need look at the Premiership , for a side that play in a similar (not same but similar) way to us. Look at Swansea City. We need a Michu or a Graham. It's what we needed last season playing 4231 under Nick and it's still what we need now playing 352 under SB. Said it before, but Proschwitz was supposed to be that player. Problem is he isn't........yet. Thing is we need that kind of player NOW!
If he's fit he will do the business, Bruce thinks so and he probably knows better than any of us. Players do get written off a bit prematurely these days, poor old Cam Stewart (20years of age) might as well give up the game if he read some of the comments about him
campbell scored all sorts of goals last time he was here, outpaced defenders, some goals from good footwork in the box, a couple from outside the box..i think hes just what we need. all our attacking midfielders have there qualities but theres no substitute for a strikers instinct, how many chances have we just missed by somebody being 1 inch away from getting to a ball, campbells instinct would have him in there 1 second earlier..
I think Strov is on the same page. We'll see when and if we do sign someone. Out of the 2 candidates discussed with Bruce after the match, Danny Graham every time for me. He ticks more boxes as an all rounder, you can't argue with double figures for Swansea last season. Already playing a very similar system, so would slot right in.
This. Campbell, as well as getting in behind as someone mentioned further up, is really good at getting on the end of things and attacking the space at the right time. I'm a big fan of Simpson and I think his finishing is very good when he gets the shot off, but generally he isn't there to do so or he ends up with the ball behind him and mishits it or something. Campbell, if he's anything like before, will arrive at the right time on those crosses and bang them home. Far too often you see the first centre back miss one of our crosses and then the second centre back clears it with no one around, how can that happen? There should be a striker waiting to bang it home as soon as the first one misses it. I'd be happy with a target man or a Graham type player but I also reckon FC could do a job.
It just said on radio humber sports news that Celtic are very interested in Campbell, it may not be has easy has many fans think bringing in a top striker
I don't think many people ever thought it would be easy to bring a Premiership striker to Hull City. There are a whole range of obstacles to overcome, of which competition from other clubs is just one.
Thats correct Strovolostiger, If Celtic are Interested in FC and Wood has gone to Leicester, Also it said in yesterdays paper Cardiff are interested in Graham then this is the competition we will face and it may be very difficult to bring a premeirship striker in. I know some fans have heard other forwards been mentioned and are saying we can do better than him ect but we might not be able to bring in the big name striker most fans want. Time will tell lets just hope if we manage to bring someone in then he fits in and improves the side even more
Would Campbell consider football (if that's what it is!) north of the border? I think not. Campbell would improve our squad and score goals. (The word is that he is fit, sharp and lacks no pace) Don't let us discount the fact that both the manager and the other team members are capable of adapting their game to get the best from any given striker - our consistent problem is that the strikers are inconsistent. If NickP were coming up to scratch, SB would have started him by now. The longer it goes on the worse it starts to look.
Problem is, seemingly in SB's eyes, NP isn't coming up to scratch quickly enough - if we weren't in the position we now find ourselves that wouldn't be a problem. As it is, we need another striker that can deliver now. Question to be answered who is that guy?!!
I do not hold much hope in us securing FC. He does not want to come back unless promotion is bolted on. Prozzie is getting there and lets face the fact that even without a striker we are only 2 goals shy of Boro. I would find it hard to accept a manager asking for big money if I controlled the club, by the end of the window we could be top. The solution has to be the loan and buy option. That would attract FC and may even help Sunderland. On the other hand if clubs around us spend, we would be foolish to be left behind. This season is really the big one and the gamble could pay off. FEZ have a good one mate!!
