If the season continues as planned do you see The Massey Mauller, better known as The Silver Fox or Super Kev being offered a fresh contract? Now in his seventh season at the club with over 250 appearances McNaughton has been a good servant but still hasn't managed to join the list of players finding the back of the net in what must be the strongest City squad ever assembled. Although his form has dipped in recent times I think Kev will be offered a new short contract.
He seems to need a few games under his belt. After getting the shepherd's crook in his first game back he seems to have had reasonable games since. I know there isn't room for sentiment, but he's been a good servant who has worked tirelessly for the promotion cause.
If we go up we will be looking at a 25 man squad. Give him a 2 year deal. If we are still in this league hes more than good enough.
I was very harsh on Nuggs after the Peterborough game - but then again he was crap. With Connolly getting yellow fever at Leicester, he got another shot and he took it. The Palace and Millwall games were grind out wins and he's always up for the fight. Deserves a run at RB on those two performances but Connolly has done little wrong to be dropped - a tough one. I'd re-sign Nuggs. He needs to play though, otherwise he'll have another Peterborough moment at some time. Like I said - a tough one to call.
I would give him a short contract of up to 2 years, he is a good full back who can get forward, the one part of his game that has always been poor, is the final ball when he gets forward, this was borne out in the Millwall game where he gave some cheap possession away especially in the first half, but he is quick and there are not many players in this league that can beat him for pace. A great servant to Cardiff City and he does deserve and extended deal.
It's a long season, so a few weeks on the bench for some players won't be an issue. Give Kev a few games, possibly play Connolley at CB for the cup game and give Huds a week off, he's the guy who's done the most work in the back 4 this season. Squad rotation isn't something we've had the luxury of before.
I'd certainly play McNuggs again at Macclesfield - the more games he gets under his belt the better. I expect to see respective right and left footers Connolly and Nugent pair up as CBs for that one as well. Might we see Velikonja get some pitch time too?
I was with you right up to the last bit. Saying that, if he doesn't get in the team for this one he never will. Lewis Taylor Little Ben Connoly Kev KimBo McPhail Kiss Smith Rudy Eti Doesn't seem a bad 'second string'. A couple kiddies on the bench and we're sorted.
Who will go to make way for new signings ? Marshall, Lewis, Parish. McNaughton Taylor, Hudson, Turner, Connolly, Nugent. Kiss, Whitts, Cowie, Conway, Kim, Smith, Noone, Gunnar, Mutch, Ralls, Macca. Velikonja, Rudy, Harris, Mason, HH, Mayard, Bellamy. 27 there have not included Earnie, Jarvis, Darko, Oshilaja, Sainte-Luce. Not sure but I think under a certain age don't count in the 25 ? maybe someone can shed some light on that.
I was just being a bit cautious of too many changes across the back especially a youngster at LB and left CB. Little Ben needs someone either side of him talking to him. I don't like chucking too many youngsters in together as it can leave them exposed and dent their confidence, especially against a Conference side who are likley to be quite physical.
