Good memory I forgot about that. This is my new neck of the woods. I am a capitals fan and just moved here a few months back from northern Virginia.
Ouch...can't condone that brutality, but there must have been some provocation given how you described Brashear earlier ? I guess McSorley was more than Gretsky's minder for all those years...he was a nasty bastard to boot. Can't remember the results of the court case...probably got off 'cos he wasn't carrying a firearm !!
I thought he went to jail for a while but I might be off. Brashear was a terror when it came to fighting but he seemed like a nice guy every time I met him. I saw him in the mall once and I asked him to kick the crap out of Crosby the next time the penguins came in and he laughed and said that if he had a dollar for every time an nhl fan asked him to do that he would be one rich guy.
This reminds me of another NHL hardman - Dan Maloney. I remember a game between Detroit & Toronto ( circa "75) when he downed a Leaf Player, punched him several times on the ice & proceeded to lift up his head and bang it with some force on the ice, several times. He was charged with assault & banned from playing in Toronto for a couple of years or so. The irony was, a couple of years later Toronto signed him & he became a cult hero and captain of the Leafs ! Makes you wonder what all this diving in football is all about !!
Ice Hockey with a Hull link - Sylvian Cloutiers brother Dan features in a fight on this video - i was trying to remember the crazy Netminder that would fight anyone and everyone. and to add some classic Bobby Probert how did the thread turn to IceHockey ??
Believe it or not Whittlingstick, there is an obscure logic within the thread to how ellewoods & I digressed to ice hockey. You guys were asleep on your side of the Atlantic, so we started reminiscing....as was often heard on Broad St. in Philadelphia..."Did you go to the fight last night ?"...."Yes I did, but a bloody hockey game broke out !".
