Yesterday afternoon i was watching the Gillette Soccer saturday programme on sky sports news and they were discussing our number 1 goalkeeper, my god, they kept having a go at him including Paul Merson who said we should get a new goalkeeper next month, he suggested we should get Shay Given from Aston Villa, apparently he's got enough champions league experience according to Paul Merson, then Jeff Stelling, then said '' i thought of Begovic'', jesus christ, give him a break, he's better than Joe Hart, who by the way, has been crap for City this season but because he's english, they won't have a go at him.

Ignore them. It's unlikely the pundits want to improve our team. SAF knows best and De Gea will get there. We all need to be patient.

He's only 21 and is one of, if not the best shot stopper in the league. In 5-10 years he'll be far and away the best keeper in the world. The best thing we can do is to stick with him and help him improve the other aspects of his game.

I agree we don't need a new keeper, and for SSN to suggest we should buy the number 2 of a team who has conceded 15 in there last 3 games is somewhat laughable.

De Gea is the most talented young keeper in the world. Jose Mourinho is even sniffing around him to replace Casillas at Madrid. He has made a few errors but that's just down to inexperience:biggrin:

The lad is young but to achieve that status he would have to improve by about 500% ! He maybe a decent shot stopper and has pulled off a few great fingertip saves for us but on the negative side (1) He has absolutely no command of his area from set pieces (2) He very rarely catches a cross and prefers to give it a limp wrist punch (3) Quite often he stops a shot by parrying the ball instead of holding onto it, with the resultant ball staying in play, which has cost us at least 2 goals this season so far. Yes, he is a young raw talent but he needs to improve a lot if he is going to get anywhere near the standard set by our last two great keepers

I think seeing his name on the team sheet gives the opposition a lift.

I'd like to see us loan out lindegard and buy begovic or mignolet as out number 1.

To suggest de Gea is better than joe hart is laughable..

I don't agree, his defence infront of him have been off the boil.

So if you put Hart behind United`s defence and DeGea behind City`s for the last 20 games do you think we would have still let 28 goals in and how many do you think City would have let in?

I think city would let in more with de Gea .

He parries too many shot, flaps at crosses.

Maybe hart has let in a few soft goals, not as many as we have. I think kompany looks half the player he did last season. So that may be a factor in harts performances.

I think de Gea will come good. It could cost us the title waiting for this to happen.

I don't buy into this myth that Joe Hart is the best keeper in the world. He's a good keeper but knowere near the best. He has had a poor season in my book so far, making many errors City and England. His big weakness seams to be from free kicks, were he refuses to trust the wall, and ends up getting beat on his own side. I can think of at least 4 occasions this season were that has happened,The most embarrassing one coming for England when Ibrahomovich beat him from 35 yards

i cant think of too many cases where De Gea has directly caused the team to concede too many goals this year, sure the one against Newcastle was bad but i cant think of one game where it has cost us points so far this year.

I can however think of a few games where he has helped us walk away with all three points due to a good number of top saves e.g. vs City. Not to mention his fantastic streak last year towards the end of the season from the Chelsea game on-wards. He just needs time, and having Vidic back will really help him, we know he like lots of keepers struggles with the command of the box, however i think Vidic will really help him with this, and will do a lot of the work from set pieces. De Gea just needs time, confidence and above all more experience.

Hart was exceptional last season. IMO he won city the title. He saved them umpteen number of times. He turned defeats and draws into victories and 3 points. Last season without doubt he was the best GK in the world.

There is no way he could repeat the same feats this season. This season he is just a very good GK. I think he is now on a par with De gea.

I may have tinted specs, but they're not that tinted..we'd be 20 points clear if we had a keeper on a par with hart. We don't and we're not
