Sunderland set to offer Lescott an escape route from Man City

Martin O'Neill is also interested in taking Blues striker John Guidetti on loan for the rest of the season

Out of favour: Lescott has fallen down the pecking order at City

Sunderland boss Martin O’Neill is plotting a daring raid for Manchester City and England centre-half Joleon Lescott, writes the Sunday People.

O’Neill is keen to land the out-of-favour *defender on loan and is waiting on the right time to pop the question to City manager Roberto Mancini about a deal. The Black Cats chief is already hoping to land Swedish striker John Guidetti from City and can only take one at a time from the same Premier League club.

Guidetti is a priority for Sunderland who want extra firepower – with Louis Saha possibly leaving the Stadium of Light if the right offer comes along.

However O’Neill would like to land Lescott, 30, if he becomes available for the rest of the season.

Lescott has lost his place and fears he may need to move on permanently, so a shop window spell would not harm his chances.

Swede dreams: Guidetti could provide the goals that Sunderland have been missing
    PA

Everton are also keeping an eye on the *situation, and Lescott could even end up back at the club he left so acrimoniously in 2009.

Sunderland’s David Vaughan is on table-topping Cardiff’s wanted list.

Midfielder Vaughan helped Blackpool go up three seasons ago and is *frustrated by his lack of *opportunities on Wearside.

The Wales international could head to Cardiff on loan and is willing to drop down to the Championship to be part of Malky Mackay’s push for promotion.

Everyone thinks that buying or loaning a CF as in Guidetti will mean MON goes to a 4 4 2 or some other formation with 2 up top, he won't. Agreed Fletcher needs help at present but, until MON is willing to play 2 up top I can't see the point when we need players in other areas more, ie. CM and across the full back line.
Lescott I reckon will go back to Everton on loan and will no doubt be a big hit with them (in my opinion he made a mistake leaving them) they will probably buy him for a knock down price at the end of the season and he will take a pay cut to make it easier for them. If he came to us it would be on loan and then back at the end of the season as he probably wouldn't take the pay cut, decent player bit slow but better than what we have so an improvement.

Good player but I'd take Dawson over him personally. Thought he was superb yesterday.

£8m but an exellent defender, and he is the sort of player we need for the next level. And what about Cisse from QPR coming back?, Gomez from Wigan?.

Rumours about Lescott, Milner, Guidetti and we already have AJ. Do we really want Man City to become our feeder club?

    Spot on Roger!

    Worse feeder clubs than City!

Lescott? Would be an incredible signing, bordering on perfect.

A defender, good in the air, comfortable on the ball, with a bit of pace? It'd be like we'd re-invented the ****ing wheel!

Lescott would be fantastic for us

I wasn't a big fan of him for a long time but last season him and Kompany were outstanding together and that was a big reason why they won they league

he is a massive improvement on what we have, he is younger than what we have, the lad doesn't have a track record of injuries and he isn't as slow as what we have.

He would be outanding for us IMO and hopefully its a permanent deal, 8m or 10m the lad would be worth it

as for Guidetti, get him in on loan and try and get the option to sign in the summer, even if its 7 or 8m, if he shows form similar to what he did at Feyenoord he would be well worth that sort of money, if not he goes back and we look for someone else.

I think we should be done with loan deals after what has happened with Danny Rose unless we have a concrete option to buy in the agreement. Spurs gave us potential and we are sending back one of the best left backs in Europe in my opinion.
