Most footballers? I don't think so, perhaps Blue Square footballers or amateurs but most Pro footballers are far fitter than your average F1 driver.
You clearly know very little of the modern F1 driver's fitness regime and the levels of stamina required just to stay competitive. Battling G-forces up to a factor of 5 around 15 times a lap, having to apply over 100kgs of pressure on the brake pedal smoothly and consistently and the torsional strength and endurance needed in the arms to turn a stiff steering wheel as regluarly as well all the while you have a V8 engine behind raising cockpit temperatures to and energy sapping 50 oC plus. Footballers get an easy time of it with a lovely half time break and some lovely rest periods between runs on the pitch as play stops or isn't in their area. Cant remember the last time i have seen a footballer complete a triathlon or an olympic cycling course.
Have a read http://www.f1technical.net/articles/1125 Oh and Shameless, just because you don't have an arguement don't try snide digs, it doesn't work or look clever. This isn't a party so isn't a reflection of what craic I have a parties, its a sports forum. Somewhere for debate
Michael Schumacher smoked about 20 cigars a day and never had a liquor out of his hand yet he was the best driver in a generation. Anyway I never once referred to fitness in the comparisson and even if I did half of the world's top golfers are hardly athletic so it's not a ridiculous comparison at all.
20 cigars a day and never had a liquor out of his hand. Im pretty sure your information is way off as it was him who started the whole fitness revolution, honestly don't know where you got that info from as it is the first i have heard. plus the comparison isn't accurate as obviously the trainers are aimed towards fans of athletic sports that require fitness like football, F1, boxing etc. Using Phil Taylor as a comparison is poor as he is involved in a game of accuracy that requires no athleticism whatsoever, as golf is as well but to a lesser extent as a strong swing help im sure.
Here is another good read http://www.health24.com/fitness/Specific_Sports/16-2175-2184-2277,13779.asp also does this look like a binge drinking chain smoker? please log in to view this image
I could google Schumacher's cigar habit but you can do that yourself. Anyway back to the original point. Lewis Hamilton advertising Reebok running trainers is not relevant to Formula 1.
its advertising mumbo jumbo lewis isnt fast because he drives an F1 car hes fast because he wears reeboks
Mick, I don't understand why you're having such a tough time with this. There's rarely any logic in advertising.
Probably because Footballers are not allowed to partake in sports that could lead to injury? As for your stats regarding the fitness of F1 Drivers that's all well and good but F1 drivers seldom (if ever) have to leap, head, tackle, shoot, pass at great pace in a contact sport do they? There are different measures of "fitness" and just because someone can do a triathlon does not mean he's fitter than a Pro footballer. My brother (aged 54) has just Cycled from John O'Groats to Land's End in 10 days, in between that he ran up Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Pen Y Fan (twice), he also managed to squeeze in 3 one mile Lake swims. He's fit, he could probably drive an F1 car but I doubt he could play football at a professional standard.
Spare me .... why do I even search for links. Please, go and read them for yourselves. Immediate quote from one of them "fitter than footballers". Helps prove my point greatly
ok then, I will rephrase, F1 drivers possess greater general endurance fitness than footballers and would long distance run them into the ground
Perhaps, but there really no is no way of proving it is there? Unless we bring Superstars back to TV. Fighter Pilots how about them, do you think they are as fit as F1 drivers? Or is it perhaps more realistic that because they too take part in the same sort of training regimes as F1 drivers, maybe even moreso because of the vastly greater reflexes needed and stresses involved, they are fitter than footballers? When all is said and done no one can say with confidence that F1 drivers in general are fitter than footballers in general. Someone could reasonably argue that fighter pilots must be fitter than F1 drivers and therefore fitter than footballers, I would'nt though.
Fighter pilots are trained to actually stay conscious during huge G loads occasionally. You cant really train reflexes either you have them or you dont. As for fitness im not so sure. They dont get the consistent pummeling time and time again with a red hot engine 4 inches behind them. Im sure a reasonable level of fitness is required but definitely not atheltic fitness.
You thick ****, Mick Whatever next, Tiger Woods advertising a computer game by EA Sports despite him not playing games on his P.C or owning a Playstation?
