It wasnt that easy of a chance, ball came at him quick at and awkward height on his wrong foot. Should have scored but was harder than Jones's chance
Strewth Guys lets not get too carried away.........players make mistakes all the time all over the field. Trouble is if a goalkeeper makes a mistake it usually means a goal, which of course is more noted. Guly has been out of the team for a while so is not going to be as sharp as you would like until he has got a few games under his belt. You have to congratulate Rodders for his reactions for his goal...no longer one goal ....but two goal! As much as we did not get the rub of the green against Sunderland...we got it yesterday. I am not sure if Jose's hand ball was deliberate or not and quite frankly he is probably the only one that would know that. I doubt Yoshida's would have been given by many Referee's. As far as the over all score goes.......Yes we should have won it, going two clear should have ensured that, unfortunately our experience of playing at this level is still very naive. We failed to take advantage of our numeracy advantage. Probably a just result on the afternoon's play and for us a tad fortunate. In truth you have to take that when it comes your way. Well done the Saints..............
Surely we shouldn't forget the fact that Man City WON with ten men against Norwich. The other point that I was encouraged by was that Yoshida did well out of position at right back. I think it goes to show how much he has improved since arriving as we all remember the last time he was played at right back early in the season.
Watching the highlights on MOTD last night made me feel better (not that I was feeling that bad though). Guly's miss wasn't THAT bad. Yes you should score those, but it was hardly nailed on. I think a lot of people would have mised that chance. Kenwyne's miss in the first 10 mins was much worse. We got exceptionally lucky with our second goal. What was Huth doing? The Fonte handball was a nailed on penalty, and I struggled to see why the red card was shown to Nzoni as opposed to just a yellow (although as he was standing right there, I am tempted to give Clattenburg the benefit of the doubt). The strike from Jerome was out of this world. Cannot be disappointed or angry to concede a goal like that. Just nothing you can do about that. Considering the amount of times Kenwyne won the ball in the air, coupled with the amount of times Davis came off his line and didn't get to the ball, we've actually done a great job to only two concede two goals in that second half (and effectively it's only the one they've conceded, when you consider that their 3rd goal was a worldie from distance, with little to do with our defending).
What no-one has said so far (about Guly's miss) is that it came from the goalie parrying a shot from Rickie, when he was through with just the keeper to beat. Why is nobody criticising Rickie for not burying that chance, which was a lot easier than the split-second angled shot that Guly had to make? I am not criticising Rickie by the way, but it seems completely unfair to solely blame Guly for us not finishing the game off. There was another chance they didn't show on MOTD, when Rodriguez pulled a cross back from the byline which Rickie couldn't quite reach. Why is nobody having a go at JRod? As far as I'm concerned, Guly had a fantastic game yesterday, and deserves to start against Arsenal.
I thought it was Jay who was through on the keeper and had his shot parried, rather than Lambert? As for Jay's pullback, I've not seen it at all, but I've had two different mates both tell me that the muck-up there was Jay even looking for Lambert in the first place, when he should have just pulled it back for Morgan to knock it into an empty net.
Thought I would read the match report in the Sunday Mirror. Apparently Stoke were playing below themselves (otherwise we couldn't have scored three) and we turned up just to get a player sent off by feigning injury and to handle a ball in the area. It was just like being there really. P.s. The amazing thing was that Guly made it into their team of the week despite Saints not turning up.
It was indeed Rodriguez who was one-on-one, and I think with the cross he just lost his composure and tried to drill it to make sure he beat the keeper and first man, when if he had a cooler head he had much easier options available to take. He, like Guly, showed sparks of why he can contribute for us though.
Yes, it was Rickie who put Jay through, you're right. My point is still the same though, and I agree we should take the positives from yesterday (where have I heard that before?) and be excited about the prospects we have nowadays.
Good point yesterday considering we were missing Lallana, Ramires and Clyne. Let's hope we catch Arsenal on a bad day next tuesday and Theo has had enough of this goal scoring lark that he has suddenly decided to take up
No one expects Rodriguez to score though. If it was Lambert he'd of ripped the net in half from there.
think you also saw another game: it was Jrod who, after getting a wonderfull pass of Rickie, should have scored before the ball came to guly
Your missing the point, i was suggesting fans do not have much belief in Rodriguez scoring, hence why they are not blaming him for missing.
At least yesterday I was not confusing Jrod for Ramirez which normally happens with me with a crappy internet connection
i'm not having a go at him at all, im saying very little of the fans expect him to score. Was talking to some other fans at the game yesterday who share the same opinions as me, largely unimpressed. Out of interest why are you so protective of him?
Because he hasn't played much in his rightful position and when he has he has played well. Yes I would like him to have scored more but it isn't for the want of trying. I just believe in giving the guy a chance, rather then slagging him off before he has had a proper run in the team.
