He still looked half decent couple of times I seen him for red bulls, and he makes runs into the box that may see Sess, Mc & Johnsons delivery's used rather than wasted. Don't see any issues at all with this
Sess and Cahill in CM can't see that working mate. Not sure on this one to be honest seems like we are going for the cheap option again when we need a top quality CM in now. Mind you we've managed so far without one.
The way I'm looking at it Talc is he will surely have more influence in open play than Seb, he's also a physical lad, doesn't fear a tackle, and is quality in the air. Seb was back on form dead ball wise yesterday, but not much else, and we have AJ & Gardner who are decemt on set plays anyway. Be it short term or whatever, he's filling gaps in CM, I'm sure we'll look to sign someone else in there, but January deals take time, a loan we have an instant option. If he doesn't pan out, we haven't lost anything.
Key word is different, we don't have a player like him, at all. Remember when we signed Bould aged 35/35, worked out well and he was part of the highest placing team in many of our lifetimes.
i can't remember the last time we scored a header and cahill is very dangerous in the air as we all know, as well as being a very good footballer, its a no brainer from me, sign him up marty
Have we not played city enough already?? 4 times in 2012 (more than any other club) and alo taken 7 points (more than any other team)!!! He's 33 but how much can players like Wickham learn from him? For someone who's not that tall he's amazing in the air
Very, very valid point mate, he is/was the master of making space in the box and timing runs, if Connor gets a bit of that, we are only going to benefit. 33 is not old nowadays anyway, he has had injuries, but was mainly his shoulder, I'd say he'll be in good nick. Henry was older , and he had an impact at Arsenal last year, the fitness levels in MLS will be sky high, as is standard with US jocks.
One thing I can't work out about our fans is why everything has to have a negative spin of "no thanks too old" or "not for me can't see it working" Personally I'll give it time. Always looked good against us. Not necessarily a "next level" signing but definitely different to what we have and a low risk loan signing.
Again, totally agree. What's the betting if we'd signed him direct from Everton he'd have been a 'great signing'? He will do a job, Aussies have a fierce will to win, if he didn't think he'd be competitive he'd not come, IMO.
Thought that was why we bought Fletcher mate he was supposed to be good in the air, he probably is given the right service just can't see it being any better than it is now for Cahill so his good heading will be lost. Add that to his lack of pace and you are left with Seb or maybe Seb who can tackle, what we need to ask ourselves here is why did Everton let him go probably one of their best players? The more I think of this the more I'd let it lie would rather we went for Donovan if any or look at European players, there must be a couple who would fit the bill.
I put a negative comment on this thread, but I'm not usually negative about our signings. I thought Cahill looked like a spent force in his final season at Everton, And I'm not sure that he would give us the pace and power we lack
Maybe MON doesnt have the player he deems necessary for CM lined up for a Jan signing so he's took the option of getting a decent player in short term.
this is it for me. Cahill's only a gap-fill but would make the world of difference to our central midfield as it is. we may have to wait til summer to get the other midfielders we need longer-term.
he's still more of a goal threat than our current midfield imo, colback, cattermole, larsson, vaughan (his lack of appearances haven't helped like), not 1 goal between them which is embarrassing, cahill would be a good signing me thinks
Wasn't a dig JD just a general observation. We could agree a fee and terms with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi and someone would have something negative to say about it mate!! As I said, I think young Wickham will learn massively from him personally. I think he'll be a decent one - not spectacular but decent. Enough and definitely more threat than we have in midfield at the moment
No probs. I didn't think you were having a dig mate. Ive had a bit of a rethink on this one. The loan duration will coincide with Cats injury, so it makes sense
