Yet another predictable list of political hangers on and athletes, I see. Speaking as somebody that quickly became sick to the back teeth of the Limpiks long before they started, but wasn't ashamed to admit he'd caught the bug when the games themselves started, I'm completely underwhelmed by the atrocious decision to award gongs to various members of Team GB. It's been a great year for Wggins: Tour de France, Limpik Gold, BBC SPOTY and now a kerniggithood to boot. I doubt anybody could put forward a rational argument as to why this kerniggithood is merited on top of his competitive honours that I haven't already considered and rejected, but of course anybody is welcome to volunteer one. (It must be a nice existence to be paid and earn sponsorship money for pursuing your hobby, whilst, in the meantime, young British lives are being needlessly wasted in a campaign that has never been properly explained to us. It seems to me that the greatest danger we've faced from Alky Ada came from our very own home-grown suicide bombers.) Don't get me wrong, as I got as much enjoyment from cheering on Wiggo, Mo et al to victory, but surely the Limpik medal was reward enough? There are hundreds of volunteer workers that have given up time and sometimes money to serve their communities in various capacities for little recognition that are surely more deserving. Likewise the aforementioned servicemen, who probably have more chance of an OBE via the Paralimpiks. The whole grotty left-wing, namby pamby, right-on, populist, Honours system is a mere propaganda tool for the social elite and it shames Her Maj to have anything to do with it.
Populist certainly, left wing - not so sure. I'm no fan of this bollocks, but not worth getting worked up about.
How can getting Royal Honours be in any way left-wing? By their very nature such awards are overtly Conservative in nature.
It's because the masses can't be arsed over such things that they've become the bollocks you so accurately described them as, Stan.
I'm not sure they're decidedly left wing either Uber. Aren't the Tories in power? I know what you're saying mate but I would just urge caution against labelling everything bad "left-wing".
Urge caution? Why? If you can find clear daylight between the instincts of Cameron and Milliband then you're a smarter man than me. Everything is bad left-wing, Swordsie, it's what we've been fed for nearly 30 years and people now largely think this way. Teachers preach it in schools and colleges, the Beeb is unashamedly left-wing bias. Most newspapers are left-leaning and those that are blatantly not are successfully smeared as bigoted propaganda. The left are in our churches, in our military and in the police forces. Feel free to label me a paranoid if you wish.
I think it has been shown that she neglected enough of what was important to have been the chief cause of the tripe we have today.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-20866526 Somebody on the left with a good sense of right, acts with honour by turning down an honour.
That's an interesting take on things Uber and quite radical too. I wouldn't disagree with you entirely though because there is more than a grain of truth to what you say. Whilst I do believe we've made great progress in all areas to eliminate racism, homophobia, sexism and all the other ism's and ist's, I think that maybe the pendulum has swung too far the other way. Its gotten ridiculous in some cases where those that are banging on about intolerance all the time are in fact the intolerant ones!! Its evident on this very Board. The PC brigade do need to be sorted out.
