The irony, I s'pose, is that whilst it was arguably a whole load of ageing, overpaid mercenaries that got the club into this mess under Capt. Sparkless, it will may be a gang of highly-paid, ageing mercenaries that'll be given the task of getting the club out of it.

If it was in mint condition it'd be worth a fortune, an early 70s icon...

I used to rebuild and sell them for a bit of exxtra cash..always had the series 2 (flat top dash0 and never touched the GT's. had a few Lotus as well.
i must have done about 15-20 of them and the most igot was for a gold series 2 on an H reg, 2 grand i got and was over the moon.

one of my favourite cars ever. Owned 5 of them. Funny enough i never owned an escort...apart from my misus !

Had a second hand Mk 1 Lotus Cortina in the mid 70s, that was a screamer but the Mk 2 1600E was just THE car of the 70s. Also had an old Humber Sceptre that was pretty nifty when it was working...

Used to love Mk1 lotus with the CND lights! Spent my first 550 quid on a Mk 2 1600E and never looked back. Would love to able to afford a decent one now. seen a couple out here as well as the odd Mk3 V6 and a Mk4 4.0 litre.
Was starting a phot collection of some of the cars out here, if uit gets any good i'll post it !

Havent seen a humber Sceptre for years..not many left I'm guessing

Talbot Sunbeams...Lotus versions & the Lancia Beta's..never been in a faster car ..both for speed and rust !

    Twenty F-grand...FFS
Would say though that that doesnt look like the orig white they came in (could be the pics) and not sure about the red stripe?
Rostyles still look good today (although revolutions always looked better) and only thing missing is the full length 'webasco" sunroof !

20k...If i was gonna spent that money in reallity, I'd be looking for a rs500 cossie or just a Mk1 2 door cossie. Prob cost 30k though.

I stopped a girl about 2 months ago who was parked outside a cafe on Sunday morn. She was showing her mae her new Mk2 Cortina she'd just bought. Not an "E" but nice condition anyway.

Dont like the mass produced crap they put out now-a-days. Alll starting to look the same I guess if the put the same data into a computer, then they will get the same results !

Best i ever had was a Capri 3L s, actually saw one the other day on a garage forecourt geezer wanted £9,995 for it, it was immaculate but Mrs Turkish gave me the look that said "I dare you.............."
now stuck with a Mazda Premacy sport "caus we need the room for the grandkids..............."
Still it was nice to dream for a minute or two of kick starting my second childhood.:emoticon-0101-sadsm

Yeah, i had an old 3 litre hacker...solid motors with the bag of cement in the back. mine was the Mk3 one but went well
Always wanted the Mk1 RS3.1. Had a friend who had one and it was a lovely car. twin headlights and the curves were quality.

Now if you cross these 2 you get the ultimate car....The Ford Cortina Mk2 "Savage"....3-litre kent lump in an uprated Mk2 body. used to be a few of the around deepest darkest Southall when i was a boy. All you could want in a car. I believe he did make a few 4 doors as well as mostly 2 door models.

Built one a long time ago and got it running...never got it on the road though!

You won't get an RS500 for £20k anymore even standard 3 doors are heading that way now

I've turned down £7k for my 2wd sapphy cossie which is well over double what I paid for it

As for Lotus cortinas a place near me is selling a restored mk1 A frame for £53k!!! That's crazy

Wish I still had my mkII Capri 3.0s

Soccer and Motors: what Saturdays were made for <party>

Had a Mk 3 Escort back in the day. Great little car. A bitch to start on frosty mornings though. Remember the manual chokes? I used to forget to push mine back in and all of a sudden you'd get a chuck that would nearly send you through the windscreen!

Now I like the modern Focus, its a good car but it doesn't come close to the Escort. On Top Gear a while back, they put a modern Focus ST up against a Cossie and it had its arse handed to it on the track.

They don't build 'em like they used to.
