I wouldn't worry about him. He's had us down to win nearly every game and we've won one all season! Wumming aside lads, when you were going after a Manager during the close season I thought that the candidates (Martinez, Rodgers etc) were a bit lightweight for a job as big as Liverpool. I was surprised that Brendan got it. Now don't get me wrong, I like the guy. He did fantastic with Swansea and played the right football. Plus he's Irish! But I did think that perhaps this job was a wee bit too soon for him. I thought that at this stage of the season, IE half way, his project would be starting to gather steam but that doesn't appear to be the case. It seems very flat at the moment. I do think he made a big mistake in not having enough strikers at the Club before the season began. As the old adage goes: goals win you games. Suarez is a cracking little player no doubt but he can't do it all on his own. Plus, he's not what you'd call a natural finisher either. I really hope it works out for Rodgers because he's a classy bloke and you are right to give him the time and space he needs. But I can also see why you'd be so frustrated at this point as its not happened as quick as would be hoped. Hang in there lads. It will come good.
Fair comments I too was surprised when he got the job - I felt it was the end of the world for about an hour. Then I heard him talk and was impressed with what he had planned and how he aimed to do it. Trouble is i've since learned that he's very, very good at talking. Is he just all talk, no trousers? Now is the wrong time to be looking at our options. January is absolutely huge for us and where we finish at the end of the season. If Rafa pops up, and we finish 12-14 then I wouldn't be surprised if a change was made. As for you lot, its a tough one to analyse. Seems a mess that was created after Warnock was fired. His experience was needed, yet it was given to Hughes, who quite frankly, failed misserably spening a lot of money and raising the wage bill substantially. Its almost if he assumed that if he paid players more the team would get results. Him, and your MD, seem rather naive. If I'm honest I think you'll go down, but I can see you beating us - I can see most beating us at the moment. There is a chance you'll stay up, but you've got to start winning.
I have! But i've also watched us quite a bit and can see us rolling over too. It is true that when a team up against it needs a win, they often get it against us. Last seasons fixture is also an issue for us!
Last season's game was one of those that come along once every few seasons. We were 2-0 down with 12 minutes to go and somehow won 3-2. I was there and it was unbelievable. I would be amazed if anything like that happens again on Sunday. You should have far too much quality for us. Still, I'll be there as always hoping against hope!!
Wish I was going! That result summed up our season last year. The result actually sent this forum into meltdown! Everyone's suppressed feeling came out and everyone fell out, a bucket load of wums appeared from knowhere - and about 5-10 people were banned! I also think it was fundamental in us switching manager too. I don't think this will happen this time - we really don't have as much quality on the field as some other fans say. We lack the cutting edge to score and that always gives the opposition a chance to win. Think you can win, but who knows maybe we'll turn up! You reckon you'll stay up?
Massive debate on our board over whether we'll stay up or not. I don't think we will, but I won't give up hope till it's too late. Good luck after Sunday mate.
Loftus Road is the sort of ground we struggle at, fans being quite close to the pitch with a good hostile atmosphere. We look far less confident away from home, but all out of our 6 wins have come against teams in the bottom 10, which perhaps bodes well for us. Like mentioned above, it all depends which Liverpool team turns up. One of our problems has been that our midfield gets bypassed to easily, and with Granero and Taraabt playing I reckon they'll get some joy on the break. In truth I don't think we've been that bad recently, We've won 4 of our last 6 games in all competitions. Certainly not as bad as people will make out, with one of them losses away to Stoke and the other being against Villa, which typically we dominated. I'm hoping Gerrard keeps up his new found goal scoring form and bags a goal, which will keep him in good stead going in to the new year.
Indeed. He was on a terrible run was COLIN but I still think he'd have kept us up. That's exactly what he did. The wage bill for a small Club like ours is astronomical. Harry fined a player last week and found out he was on more than anyone at Spurs! (Not sure if that's strictly true because I think Bale and Modric would have been on big money) But it shows the lunacy of our transfer strategy. The Club also paid the 3rd highest (7.5 mil) amount to agents last year, in the whole Country. Hughes was possibly the worst Manager we've ever had. The MD was also very naive. He's a good bloke and has the Club at heart but he was sold down the river by Hughes and his cronies. I think we're pretty much gone already. Harry's inherited the biggest bunch of overpaid mercenaries ever assembled at a Club of our size since Brian Robson did the same at Middlesbrough. I hope Sparky goes back to Blackburn. That joke of a Board they have there and Hughes would suit each other down to the ground.
Don't know where you buy your atlases but Rodgers is Northern Irish. Anyway, the rest of your comments are fair.
lol You need to totally rebuild and start again. That might just have to be from the Championship. Whats the score with parachute payment though? They're changing/have changed havent they? For Harry to come out and have a pop at his squad really shows how big the task is. He's almost signalling that he'll do what he can, but he cannot make ****e players good. Shocking his comparison with Spurs' wages, even if not 100% bang on. Tough to see Sparky getting another good job.
Completely agree. Wish we had Benitez back, we would be hard to break down and still play good football. His name also is a big attraction to players. Anyway, fully expect a QPR win, I'm going 3-1 again.
Our shi*test player is on three times the amount of Norwich's best player! That shows how ludicrous it is! I agree that this is a crucial window for you however it is a notoriously difficult market. Its very inflated and practically impossible to find a bargain. Are your Board willing to spend big to bring in a goalscorer?
Now now REV. you being from the North would know people born there can be Irish or U.K. citizens. They cant be British though thats just the law. Anyhow thats for another place and time
Rev, you quote Epicurus and Voltaire in your Sig. Both very eminent philosophers in their day for sure. Not sure about Joey Barton though!
