Thanks Saints Alive - anybody who is tending to forget what this legend did for the club needs to watch this. Absolutely breathtaking - there is not one player in the Prem at present who is near Le God's level of ball skill and ability on a regular basis.
Never get tired of seeing Le Tissier in action, and watching opposition fans feel the need to applaud behind the goal when he scores Feel privaledged to have been a fan during his playing career and its a shame that so many wont realise how much he meant to the club. That goal against arsenal in the final proper game at the Dell was one of the finest moments in football for me.
It was an honour sometimes to watch Tiss play. You knew there was always hope when he was on the pitch. We all have memories (other than his goals)...there was one match where a chap had obviously been told to stick to him like glue...he followed Mattie and stood by him when he was talking to the manager, he stopped when Tiss did...if Matt was substituted I'm sure the defender would have joined him in the shower. Matt bent down to tie up his boot, the guy took his eye off him for a moment and Tiss got away and scored. You don't see things like that in highlights.
As good as Ramirez and Lallana are as players with skill and flair Le Tissier was on a different planet he made you proud to be a Saint when fans of other teams loved and admired his ability and loyalty they were dead jealous he was ours.
Exactly - these lads are good players but Le Tissier had the ability to win games for Saints from nothing, which he did on enough occassions to keep us in the Premier league for years. If Le Tiss was playing tomorrow i would be going up there thinking that we could pull off a win, but i dont have the same feeling just because Gaston Ramirez is in the team - i feel that we can get something tomorrow but if so it will a team effort. Mind you i would love it if Ramirez has a storming game and scores a couple of outrageous goals for us !
Ramirez has a great goal just round the corner for him I'm sure, but times have changed. Matt was an outstanding talent in an average though spirited team. Everything was built round him. He knew he had to do something for Saints to win...the modern saints team is pass pass. Must add...Matty was also a wonderful crosser of the ball. If you look at the top sides now, they are full of great players and none are dependent on just one player.
Not sure we realised how good he was sometimes. I can remember fans giving him stick for not trying, not chasing back etc. Looking back now he was one in a million!
Agree with all this Fran - but if Matt Le Tiss was in the present Saints team at Stoke tomorrow, in place of Ramirez, i would be expecting us to have a really chance of pulling off a win. I dont feel the same about Ramirez or Lallana, although both are very good players ( especially Lallana who is is just so talented ). Rickie Lambert would just love MLT's free-kicks, crosses and corners. Our crosses & corners are rarely zipped in now like MLT could do - especially with Lallana out of the team. Anyway we will get by with what we have and hope that you are right and our Gaston buries one - he almost did against Fulham so maybe this will give him the impetus to have a go more often as the chances arise.
Oh yes, the moaners have not just appeared - they have been in football crowds all my life ! But none quite like the one that i unfortunately have in the next seat to me these days !
