After watching our performances in recent weeks and realising that even the appointment of one of the best managers around couldnât lift us above sh**e, I am now resigned to the fact that we are heading back to the Championship. I really donât want to be called âinfectedâ or a âpessimistâ by members here but I am actually almost serene about it. Maybe it's a defence mechanism that helps me to cope. Being a QPR fan for over 30 years has thought me many things including the fact that we just canât do anything the easy way. Now, donât get me wrong, I will keep some embers alight right up until it is a mathematical certainty. I hope to God that I am wrong. I might be in the minority here but I really saw MH as a solid appointment. I thought the only problem we would have, was impatient fans complaining after a few years about our mid table mediocrity and boring workman like football. I donât blame TF either. Letâs be honest here, where was the risk in appointing a manager with proven International and Prem experience? Another point we have to consider is that last Jan there was not a multitude of good managers available. I am sure that TF is hurting every bit as much as us at the moment. He is a businessman who is use to success. He took an educated chance and failed. I for one do not blame him for the situation we are in. The purchasing policy we implemented has been nothing short of disastrous. The gamble to buy older more experienced Pros should have paid dividends and pretty much guaranteed our Prem survival. FFS, we bought several players who have played in and won Champions League finals. While never technically gifted at any sport I have always managed to punch way above my weight at most sports by sheer effort and determination. I come from a country where our national sport involves amateur players training and playing to a consistently high professional standard for nothing other than the love of the jersey. While some of you might find this a romantic dream, for me, itâs the standard that I judge my sportsmen and women against. Quite simply, I hold the players responsible for the dreadful position we now find ourselves in. I know MH did not cover himself in glory with his inept team selections and tactical formations but the players we had on the pitch were so much better than the performances and results achieved. Players these days just donât give a sh**e. Deep down we all know this but as fans we expect effort, determination, sweat and pride in the jersey as an absolute minimum. Our club is now full of mercenaries who donât give a damn. We have experienced unbelievable lows at our club in the last fifteen odd years but this IMO stinks as badly as any. At a time when many are experiencing the deepest recession imaginable complete with crippling austerity measures; we get to watch these pre-madonnas acting like spoilt children. It sickens me. Harry canât work miracles with his lot. There is no confidence at the club. No will to succeed. No desire. We really need to wake up to the fact that these players donât deserve our respect. I donât want to see too many more come in January. I was always thought that when you make a mistake, rectify it and move on. Never compound a mistake with another one. In January we need to offload three or four of our non performing high earners. Bosingwa, SWP, and Granero should be sold any way possible. I will take any of Joe Cole, Lampard, Anelka and Keane on LOAN only. Anything other than a six month loan deal is only asking for further trouble. In the summer Barton, Ferdinand, Zamora and Cisse need to also take a hike. Traore, Hoillett, Adel, Onouha and Mackie are the foundation for the future. Harry needs to bring in young and hungry players and we need to dispense with this policy of older players looking for one final pay day. Flyer was dead right. Respect to you. I can accept poor results as long as I see players that give a sh**e. Apologies for the rant.
Hardly a rant more a statement of fact This is all v disappointing but we've been through a lot worse
Nutsy, I think that might be the finest article you've ever posted up here. Brilliant stuff mate. Agree with every word.
Surprised you held back this long NUTS. I have become somewhat numbed in the last few weeks, the false dawn with four games unbeaten descending to the shyte witnessed at Toon and yesterday. I've said several times the period up to January would scupper Harry, this lot just haven't got the will to raise their game and the triers are up against it. A few loans, the foundations of a team for the Championship is the best we can hope for in reality. Like you, I'll keep hoping, forlornly, that a run of results suddenly goes our way but I think it will all be over by Easter and I hope that Harry blanks the mercenaries for good at that point, let the Hills, Derrys and Mackies have the last few games as they've given their all...
As Wubba has said we've been through a lot worse. Losing to Vauxhall Motors, not getting promoted from League One at the first attempt, etc., are far worse than this. Losing to WBA not as bad as losing to someone like Northampton.
Sums up my sentiments exactly. The Premiership dream quickly turned into a recurring nightmare. Give me the likes of Hill, Derry, Mackie, genuine triers who take pride in their performances any day over the likes of Granero who can't be arsed and plainly doesn't feel any obligation to his paymasters or fans. So be it if we go down. I look forward to supporting good honest professionals again which are easier to find in the lower leagues. Lets take our club back from these pr1cks who are bleeding us dry.
After all the hard work in getting here and it will be back to Barnsley away I hope those cu*ts go down to League One this year so it'll at least save us that embarrassment.
At least we will win a few more matches in the Championship. I will also save money not having to renew my Sky Sports subscription.
Excellent post Nuts, like yourself I've moved from feeling hopeful, to feeling angry and now to accepting that anything positive from now on in is a bonus. In terms of individual moments of Rs depression though I think losing against Oxford United in the league cup final and to Cardiff in the play off final rank lower, this season has just felt like a slow death...
Im hoping Harry can dismantle this team of useless mercenaries that Mark Hughes has put together (with a couple of exceptions) and rebuild and prepare a competitive team back in the championship. When he does I will be back cheering on the Rs at Loftus Road and on the road.
I liked it when Lazio fans protested at their own club's training ground with banners which read 'mercenaries' when their players had stopped giving a **** about the club that gave them so much. Sorry to see it's happened at QPR, but you get burnt when you play with the fire of financial doping.
And you should know. Will your new owners be splashing out in the window? Heard Becchio is off to Bolton and you're after Dexter Blackstock.......
Doesn't sound like they'll be spending disproportionate amounts. Warnock wants to contract the handful of loanees we have and get one or two signings, but I doubt more than 2-3m will be spent, and we only spend 1.5m or so over the summer. All of that is appropriate for a club which turns over 30m a season, and most of that from the input of the fans. If they do spend 10m or something stupid, I'll be the first to criticize them. Becchio will stay. Blackstock doesn't fill me with excitement, but would be par for the course with Warnock. His goals to starts ratio is pretty good, not that he's the sort of top flight standard signing a club of our unfathomable massiveness should be looking at.
The scary thing is, there's some guys on here that are still defending them. Just shows how much they really think of QPR.
Excellent NUTS! Found myself agreeing with that piece entirely. I'm exhausted of feeling disappointed week in week out by the players I've put my trust in. To use one of DT's descriptions, "infected", I'm afraid it is not us the fans that's infected but unfortunately our beloved club with players that doesn't care. And there is no penicillin to cure it.
Good post nuts and i think everyone can feel the same a some point whilst reading that. My only problem / worry is the players you've said should be our foundation for the future (Adel, hoillet, Taore, Mackie & Onuha) will be "offski" in the summer. anyone of them could go to a mid table prem club like Fulham or newly promoted club and do a job. To be honest, i wouldnt blame them either. I think IF we do go down it will be for a very long time as we'll be starting all over again. Not Sure 'Arry would be with us either. I'm starting to think that us getting relegated and having someone like Holloway, Sir Les etc i.e. one of our own, is gonna be the best way forward. At least we would know they had the best intrests of our club in thier minds at all times?..Just a thought.
Yea fair points. The players I listed are the ones I would like to keep going forward, managing to keep them will be another story. Think Harry will stay as age wise this is prob his last job. Would love to see Les back at the club.
FFS - Cheer up, support the team. There is no chance of winning if our own fans aren't giving it 100%. Players looked like they gave it Saturday, but LR seemed very quiet. They aren't going to win games without the crowd shouting them on.
