Since Shiny posted his City team thread it's brought back memories of players we have seen come and go, also strangely some players still with us. We know some of our younger posters only remember players from the new Millennium where as other posters can go back to Dickensian times.... So post just a City players name or even the reason why you remember this player. ( as loan players has become the 'norm' we'll include them ) I'll start off with Shaun Goater, a great striker we signed from Rotherham in 96 and went to Man City in 98 where he is still well remembered. Feed the goat and he will score!
Yeah He wont be remembered for scoring goals, the only memory I have from him was when deano got injured and he had to go in goal. http://www.bristol247.com/2010/04/0...m-forest-horror-tackle-leaves-a-bitter-taste/
did we? I also never knew we had Ben Foster and John Ruddy on loan to us. along with david James we haven't done to bad with England capped goalkeepers
We're responsible for all the half decent goalkeepers out there. If only we kept some of them. Lets hope Stephen Henderson isn't another one that makes it big time
I remember fondly our 80's pair up front of Steve Neville and Glyn Riley. About 4ft 6 inches between them.....including the compulsery 80s perm hair-do! Neville was the serious one and Riley the cheeky northern joker of the pair. Not sure where they ended up or what they are doing now. Any one remember the striker we signed called Tony Caldwell?......did he even start a game for us? And what about the striker that just could not score......Liam Robinson....worked his socks off all season and scored on the last game iirc? And the sad story of Dean Horix.....signed from Millwall i think, but sadly passed away before he kicked a ball.....very sad indeed.
Gerard Lavin, a defender we signed in 1999 left in 2001, my only memory of him was he got into trouble deliberately kicking the ball into the Millwall crowd!
Did Steve Neville come from Exeter? but him and Glyn where a great pair together, no high balls! Tony Caldwell I think came from Bolton where he was a big hit but I can't remember playing for us! Dean Horrix played one match for us then killed that night driving home, around 1990'ish, we had a testimonial V Millwall to raise money for his widow.
One for our older members, Steve Johnson. Great big lump of a lumbering centre forward, the ground used to shake when he came in your general direction, pretty rubbish ball control and not very good but gave his all... Also going back to the Riley/Neville era, you also had Howard Pritchard who I still remember as being able to cross the ball on the run, full tilt and some impossible angles with Walshy with his cannonball shot on the other wing for good measure. We played some decent football on the deck in those days...
Massive, it was his first game away at Reading and he broke a spectators arm. Not sure he ever played for us again...
Clayton Blackmore, we had on loan from Middlesborough in 96, only 2 years after he had left Man U after being there 12 seasons, he looked a different class, and still the best player we ever had on loan from Boro!
'Rambo' as he was called, so that shows how long ago he played for us! Terry Cooper signed him after he had scored a fantastic goal against us at Ashton Gate (Wigan?) My last memory of him was when we played the rovers in the 1st 2 minutes he 'tackled' Fruity Francis who 5 minutes later was stretchered off! Howie was a good winger, last time I met him he was driving one of the coaches the C.A.T.S had put on when we went away to Millwall ( when Andrew Cole was playing for us) Alan Walsh.... his daughter is now married to Kelsey Grammer!
He played three times. His last game was against Shrewsbury away when Dave Smith scored the late winner. He died within 24 hours in a road traffic incident.
How about Perti Jantunen Gert Meyer Peter Spiring Spiring was a great little player, a sort of pre-Ritchie Ritchie, rather like a 'John the Baptist' figure
mark robbins, scored 4 goals in 6 games then cost us promotion by missing a penalty when at sheffield wednesday against QPR
Lee miller, missed an open goal against swindon in the last minute.. still remember dancing around like a deranged lunatic then thinking it was in then all the swindon fans were taking the piss, anyone remember that?
