16 goals in 21 appearances for Coventry, on loan from Forest. He,s out of contract in the summer, I would get him in and either we start playing prozzy or loan him back and get another forward in, preferably Austin or Morison. Get rid of McLean, McKenna and oli and get a proper centre midfield player in as well as Meyler.
I think Morison is definitely one we have asked about. Steve Bruce was distinctly awkward when answering Burnsies questions about him in the post match interview. As for McGoldrick no thanks, 8 goals on 64 games for Forest at this level is not good enough. The likes of Morison, Graham, Campbell have proved they have what it takes at this level and that is what we need.
We could sign Morison etc but what's to say they don't get injured first game. That's why I said sign 2 strikers. Mcgoldrick as the cheap option, he's on fire and only 25. We can't rely on McLean, nowhere near good enough. Four fit strikers is the ideal. We can't let Simmo,s goal drought go much longer. I want prozzy to come good, so it's time to play him or loan him back to Germany and move on. Simmo,s header was an appalling miss. Murray, Austin nugent would all have buried it. I wouldn't want to meet Leicester in the play offs let's get automatic.
Bit of a pointless argument to be honest - McKenna and Oli will 100% defo be gone in the summer and both will probably sit picking up their hefty wages on their last big contracts. Neither are likely to leave in Jan on a perm to earn less money when they can have 6 months on their current deals and you cant blame them. The best we can hope for is loans out and we pay half their wages. Mclean is also unlikely to go perm unless we completely write-off any fee and again I can see a loan until the end of the season. I remember Brian Horton saying the most difficult thing to do in football is sell a player. It's all well and good saying get rid but someone has to want them AND offer the player an incentive to leave.
I thought what teams did was try and get them a deal with another club and pay them a lump sum.say oli is due 200 grand until June we offer him 120 grand and say Sheffield Wednesday give him a contract for 18 months, he'll get paid say 80 90 grand frm them for the 6 months and secure his future for a further year! If we can then we can strengthen a very weak area for us.
There is always the argument that sometimes it takes a few years for a player to "come of age," who's to say that he isn't now ready for the step back up.
Exactly we signe McLean when he was 27, we should have seen the best of him! Strike that we probably have and it's not good enough. Mcgoldrick's 25, he scored 16 in 21. A lot of championship clubs will be looking at him, he,s out of contract in the summer.
As I said, if we have the money to sign an Austin/Morison great but what if they get injured straightaway? That's why we need to sign 2 forwards. Our player of the year this year was a league 1 punt wasn't he?
Don't see your point. Why assume we would sign a Premiership Centre Forward on a permanent deal? I reckon if Morison or Graham came it would be on loan with a big loan fee. Quinn wasn't a punt, he has good championship and Premiership experience. We were very luck to sign him, probably due to the failings of his agent. But even then you cannot compare a midfielder with a striker. Just look at the salary differences, good strikers are as rare as chicken's teeth.
The other Championship club who still owns him but has decided he's not good enough for their midtable team?
Actually you quoted Austin AND Morison. Signing players is a massive risk these days given the money involved in straight signings, which is why loan signings are so popular. I would prefer a permanent signing who is "Doing It" in the Championship at the moment. However, you have to take each case individually. Austin would cost a fortune, Burnleh are reknowned for getting top dollar for their players so they may well price Austin WAY above what he's worth, and he would probably want a Premiership club. Lesster are doing their usual and paying way over the odds for Woods, well good luck to them, the chickens will come home to roost soon. Beyond that I think Craig Davies is the best value permanent target in this division and dangling £1m - £1.5m in front of Baaaaarnsleh will probably do the trick. Failing that, as I say, my second choice strategy would be a Premiership striker like Graham, Morison or FC on loan.
Poor example, he wasn't even remotely a League One punt. Regardless, it makes no difference, us signing Mcgoldrick is no more probable, than us signing van Persie.
FFS I try and start a. Positive thread about a potential striker for our squad and. It's negative after negative. Our current first choice striker was decided by 2 managers of ours to be not good enough for us and apart from a handful on Here all were in agreement with that.
I think we only need one striker in,to play off Simpsons great hold up play. As for back up,we have Proschwitz (he will come good),Koren has shown he can play there, and Aluko. The big thing is when we do get the new man,he's got to be right and better than we already have. He has to be proven and able to get scroring right away. We can't afford to skimp,as i think the right player would almost guarantee promotion for us.
I don't and haven't disagreed with that, what I have repeatedly said is, I want 2 strikers in. We can't bring in both Morison and Davies, so a cheaper and a marquee one is needed.
Why wasn't he? So your saying a player just cos they're in league 1 isn't a punt if he's good. Ok mcgoldricks good
