Hi Fellow Horns Just signed up to this site, I was a browser of the old 606 boards but have decided to chip in with a few contributions to this new forum I just wanted to know what everyone's opinion is on what sort of transfer activity will take place at the vic over the summer months. Clearly it will be an interesting period with new owners and valuable playing assets being sought after by rival teams. Will we be able to keep Malkay at the club and away from the increasing number of admirers in the chapionship/PL Will the new owners invest money (Their own, not the banks.do they even have any?) Will Danny Graham/Sordell/Buckley/Cowie be sold to balance the books? What sort of player should we bring in either to add to the squad, or replace outgoing players? Personally, I would like to see Mackail Smith come in if DG is sold. If Graham goes for 2-3Million, I'm sure roughly half that figure could secure the services of CMS. We also need to bring in some defensive cover, however i fear we may once again be investing in loan players, something which I have found increasingly frustrating since the clubs financial misfortunes began. Why can't we bring in season long loans instead of temps! Anyway, look forward to your opinions COYH
We desperately need to sort the defence out with the highest priority a proper LB - we cannot continue playing a right footed player as a LB and I am sorry but Doyley is well past his sell by date. Rumour back in January was that Norwich had offered ã3M for CMS and it was turned down by P'boro - but I would like to see him at Watford, local chap..
I guess my perfect summer would be for Ashley Young go for a rediculous amount of money, therefore us get a fair whack, in which we can keep DG and have a small kitty! Unfortunately this I don;t think this is too likely! 2nd best would be for DG to got for around ã4-5million, and I'd be more than happy for some of this to go to replaying some of the debt early, on the pitch, and a small kitty to go on frees and loan deals. I think we could get Weimann back. It's probably dead now, but I don't think Andrew Taylor has signed a new contract, so offer one with a 'signing-on' fee. I would also enquite about Mutch again, but think he would be impossible to get if Brum get relegated. Then sure we could ask Uncle Alex and Arsene for a youngster or two (Just not Drinkwater again). I think Cowie might be out of contract in the summer so want that sorted, plus a few longer contracts for some! Maybe we could also sell oach if a decent offer comes in and try to find a decent but older keeper we can use for a season or two, and who the younger keepers can learn off. Loach is a fantastic prospect, but is prone to too many mistakes and maybe he does need to move clubs to progress! I do have a feeling it will be a slow summer on the transfer front, with plenty of speculation about who is after DG and our dealings mainly done towards the end.
Ideal Scenario Ashley Young Leaves and we receive ã2-3M Buy Andrew Taylor and 1 other experienced defender on a free. Lowry from Villa who has been at Sheff Utd looks good also Keep Cowie, Graham etc and add Mackail Smith, Kevin Philips, Win C'ship in March!
If we can sell Scott Ouch we will be doing well, his silly errors recently have lowered his stock considerably. I think we must be resigned to Ashley Yong not leaving Villa and in their haste to balance the books Danny Graham and Marvin Sordell will be sold off cheap. There will be little joy in attracting anyone of note except perhaps one or two journeymen, who will not be serving the club at all, but have a big name that will drain whatever money we may get from selling DG and MS. We will be reliant on the academy next season. I do not want to paint a bleak picture, but when have Watford EVER had any luck in selling players. We wouldn't need a defender if Mike Williamson had not been such an arse.
Zen - don't be so gloomy - Ashley Young will surely go this summer. As for Loach I am not sure we should sell if his value has fallen too much - he will bounce back and if we sell on the cheap we may miss out in the future
Welcome NGV Can I have some of what you|ve just had! Only joking! DG will go ,the only question is where and How much? If we receive a half decent offer for any player they will be off as well! CMS forget it ! the Posh want more then we can afford! Uncle Baz is here on his own agenda and no one knows what it is!(thats the really scary part) MM is contracted to us till 2014 (yet we all know that means nothing)! If we keep MM and GT where they are and get to the end of the window having only lost a couple of players I will be happy! Incoming players will be scottish or lower league lads (although it would be nice to get another Tiny)! I also would like to see a more experienced Keeper and a left footed LB ,The first I dont think will happen ,the second surely has to happen! If Ash leaves Villa ,we will be very limited in what we can do ,if Ash doesnt leave Villa we will be very limited in what we can do! Last season we had the 2nd lowest budget, next season I wouldnt mind betting we will have the lowest! Next season we will be fighting the odds again, but its kinda fun dont you think?
Without joining in the speculation of who goes and is bought in, it did strike me that Malky has been making sure that his voice has been heard over the size of the squad. It struck me as a very clear statement that he is being asked to perform the impossible.
By my reckoning we have used 14 teenagers in first team matches this season, and another five or six as unused substitutes. That really does say it all as far as squad depth is concerned. We can survive the loss of Danny Graham, but experience wise it has got to be a one-in, one-out policy. No club at this level can hope to survive with fewer senior pros than us for a sustained period.
Realistically we have to try to unearth the next Danny Graham as I doubt he is in our Academy - and if we can get a good fee for Danny then it is only fair on Malky - the BOard must realise there would only be so much he could stand before he decided that enough was enough
They can only give him 30% of any fee, as stipulated by the takeover agreement. I don't know if that applies to Ashley Young though.
By the board you mean one nice granny who used to be a hairdresser , a legal eagle who admits he is a rugby man! and a wideboy chancer!!!! I really hope Fransen is extremely persuasive!!
Ashley Young being sold for ã15m would get us ã750k, as it's 15% of profit on the ã10m they paid us. He only has 1 year on his contract......so I would feel lucky if anyone paid ã15m. Graham will go for more than ã2m-ã3m. We can't afford not to make teams pay more....and going on the inflated prices these days Graham IS worth more. CMS for ã2m-ã3m? No way would we pay that, and no way is he worth that. Not a proven prolific goalscorer at Championship level.......I thought his contract was running out this Summer anyway.... Sordell wouldn't leave, as I don't think he's valuable enough for it to be worthwhile for us....plus he still has goals in him and is unlikely to demand a move away...... Buckley/Cowie maybe......I'm unsure of their contract lengths...I think both will probably stay though.
Erm - so you think that the ã9.5M we got for Ashley Young wasn't enough? Or the ã1.7M for Tamas Priskin? Or the ã3-4M for King Lady Beater? Or the ã4M for Hameur Bouazza?
