I know the Tiote and yellow card articles / problems have been done to death, and it looks like he'll sit out the final two games of the season (good plan).

I have had a thought regarding next season. With the African Cup of Nations coming round in January, we're going to lose Tiote for several games - not exactly sure how many. So why not use this to our advantage? If Tiote is on 8 or 9 yellows leading up to when he has to go, get him to pick up a couple more bookings (shouldn't be too difficult) so that his 10th yellow comes in his last match before he ships out.

Now I'm not that sure of the rules surrounding this (but the FA seem to let clubs do as they please) so could Tiote serve a two match ban whilst away at the African Cup? Then when he comes back we won't have to worry about him getting a yellow or two and being banned almost straight away.

This is all theoretical, he could go the whole of next season without picking up any bookings <laugh>

Good idea if that is the case next January, hopefully referee's will stop giving him yellow cards for his first foul of the game by then!

Not sure if being on international duty constitutes as allowable for a missed match due to the fact that the club have released the player for the specific reason of playing for his home country and not the club.

The rules enforce non-selection for games where the player would normally be selected.

Also consider that picking up more yellows will just get him closer to the 15 card 3-match suspension after that. Which as we've seen this year is actually attainable, who'd have guessed?!

I think if you get to 20 yellow cards you get dragged in front of some FA hearing and have to virtually beg for your life. Surely nobody could ever get 20? Maybe Scholes if he didn't play for Man U.

The FA have a special dispensation to that ruling called the 'Joey Barton clause'.

If any player gets to 20 yellows in a season; Joey is executed and then the offending player has to beg for his own life.

I can remember seeing or reading something somewhere saying that a player was given a ban and got injured once he recovered he had completed his ban but the FA or whoever said that he still had the ban because he wouldn't of played anyway it may be like this for tiote.
