I did watch the program on the TV last night when Alan Sugar was going to give his views on what is wrong with the set up in English football and his remedies.

I was somewhat shocked when he admitted early on that he had helped Sky obtain the broadcasting rights for the Premier League. The bids were in and ITV were about to win it, so he got on the phone and told Sky that they would lose. They immediately came back with a bid that was 50% higher than ITV. As the chairman of Amstrad with a large desire for Sky to get the contract he behaved in a way that seems very dodgy.

He interviewed the CEO of the Prem. Karen Brady, the manager Harry Redknapp, Alan Shearer, an agent, Wheelen and an accountant, with some input from Platinni. The only one who showed any interest in things outside of the Prem. was Karen Brady and there was approx. 20 seconds when Plymouth were mentioned.

Once again the Beeb have come up with a program that does not acknowledge that there is life outside the Prem.

How did QPR arrange to have no punishment? That was wrong. Perhaps to lose the points they won against the teams in the play off seats where Alejandro Faurlin played.

Well they came at 10.30 so could have been a lot worse...and they took four items for the price of three so I suppose I shouldn't complain!

Condolences, Yorkie...hope he's remembered with fondness.

My overiding impression of the programme (apart from Sugar's shock confirmation that he is just a barrow-boy) was that everyone thought that everyone else was to blame for the shoddy state of the finances of football clubs in this country. Even the CEO just seemed to shrug it off...I hope it all goes tits up very quickly!

Yorkie - Sorry to hear of your loss, thoughts are with you mate.

w_y Sugar was forecasting that there would be a major crash before long, but I totally agree that they all blamed each other.

While Sky continue to hold the contract, they are almost dictating what will happen. The CEO clearly could not see that there was anything wrong. Harry said he did not know what his players earn, so nothing to do with him and Shearer supported players getting whatever they could, while he did admit that some only played for clubs with the money.

It showed up the rotten state of things, yet the "solutions" were shown to be unlikely to come about.

OFH - First step would be to remove the "football creditors" preferential treatment when a club goes into admin. It would force clubs to buy players with all the cash up front instead of on the never never as they dare not take the risk of the buying club going into admin and losing their money owed. It would start to limit the rise in transfer fees as clubs would have to have the cash available to make the purchase.

    I GOT IT BACK!!

I got in to work this morning at quarter to 9, with the intention of going straight to the kitchen to reclaim my mug before some thieving scoundrel got the opportunity. As I got to the kitchen, the receptionist was unloading the dish washer, and there I could see it, glistening in the sunlight. I was overcome with emotion at the thought of being reunited with my beloved mug.

I launched towards the receptionist, and pulled the mug away from the grasp of the dishwasher. It looked fantastic, just as it did when I last saw it. Fortunately, whoever abducted it didn't appear to subject it to any heavy handed-ness. After 2 cups of tea, the mug appears to be structurely sound.

As I was making my celebratory cup of tea, a colleague entered the kitchen. Like another colleague, she also commented on the bright nature of the mug. Forgetting about the possibility of coming across as a mentalist, the first thing I said was, "IT'S MINE!". I then proceeded to do a very uncomfortable laugh, attempting to portray this in a sarcastic manner as if her comment implied she wanted it. She just looked at me strangely and walked off.
