21st December 2007 Fulham Football Club today announced its decision to replace Lawrie Sanchez as manager of Fulham Football Club with immediate effect. Ray Lewington and Billy McKinlay will be in charge of the team whilst a search for a permanent replacement takes place. COYW
24th December 2007 Ray Lewington will continue in charge of Fulham for their Boxing Day fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane but the club are keen to have a permanent replacement for Lawrie Sanchez, who was dismissed last week, in place before the transfer window opens in eight days. The front-runners for the job are Martin Jol, John Collins and Graeme Souness. please log in to view this image Guess it was always meant to be !!
Funnily enough, I remember at the time really wanting John Collins to get the job. The fact that he had resigned unexpectedly from Hibs the day before Sanchez was fired convinced me it was going to happen. Given the lack of impact he's had as a manager since then (and how things went for us), it's safe to say that Roy - who I certainly didn't see coming - was a much better choice.
28th December 2007 Just to complete the story it didn't take MAF long to appoint Roy as the new manager. The announcement was made five years ago today, althought he didn't officially take charge until Sunday 30th December.
