    First MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
    Now;

the transfer window is not open but i thought i'd put up a transfer poll for Daniel Sturridge.

The basics of the deal are as follows:

    1. To be completed on January 1.

    2. To cost 12million pounds.

    3. 60k per week wages

    4. The stats

    D.O.B 1 September 1989 (age 23)
    Height 1.88 m (6 ft 2 in)
    Playing position Striker / Winger

    Career thus far

    2006–2009 Man City 21 apps 5 goals
    2009-2012 Chelsea 63 apps 13 goals.
    2011 Bolton (loan) 12 apps 8 goals.

    International

    2009–2011 England U21 15 apps 4 goals
2011 to date England 4 apps 0 goals
    2012 Team GB 4 apps 2 goals

So what is the opinion, value for money? Potential or another expensive english premium about to be paid....

for the record i think at 12mil its a good deal, 18mil was a bit rich for me on this guy. I think Di matteo didn't fancy him but he did well for avb

Really confused about him. Much better than recent English buys, but is he that good and his attitude. Just hope for the best.

Not sure he is the perfect fit for us but surely we will be better with him up front rather than JJ, plus his price would have shot up when walcott signs a new deal.

  5. Its well known I don't want him but I think he will do well if playing every week.

The recent british transfer activity for our club doesn't help convince fans imo.

Oh, and welcome back MITO. FFS...<doh>

In theory a great signing: Semi-proven in the PL (more so than Borini anyway). Strong, tricky pacy, will get goals. Can play anywhere across the front 3.

I do have reservations about his attitude though, particularly if the rumours are true about the deal almost falling through because Sturridge wanted it wrriten in his contract that he will play regularly as a CF. We know that BR likes his strikers to interchange.

I can see it working though if Suarez predominantly plays wide right, which I still think would get the best out of him despite his goalscoring record this season.

Any other options to be added? Something like not sold on him but hope he comes good?

  8. I think that's a given for most people. How many of us wanted Carroll, Konchesky, Poulsen, etc? We still wanted them to come good!

When the ridiculous Carroll deal went through, I remember thinking why didn't we take something like £35m and Sturridge for Torres. Instead we bought Andy.

    This^

If he's our player I'm happy to get behind him (metaphorically speaking) and see what he can do.

I know its generic but you really don't want to be " see I told you he was ****". I think he fits out style better than Carroll but really worry about attitude, work rate, does he want to add more to his game or is he complacent at where he is at? All things we shall see, how he fits with team as well.

    None of the above

IMO, value for money, good player that could be a massive success or a failure, if he is a failure we will recoup most of our layout.LOW risk transfer

He won't solve 'all' our problems - but he will improve us, and his transfer won't be in isolation - there will be other deals in January and the summer.

My thinking exactly! Although it is possible that Chelsea valued him more highly back then; hindsight is wonderful though.

He is a talented lad, fitness and attitude are not so great, but overall a good signing.

Let's hope he hits the ground running better than Borini. Not my cup of tea at all and won't suit the slow build up play we've played all year. For Sturridge to work we will have to do what BR doesn't want us to do and get the ball forward quickly. The way we played yesterday will suit DS down to the ground. The way we've played the rest of the season he'll be as ineffective as the rest.

Hopefully he's not our main purchase of the window but I suspect he will be. I'm glad though that we haven't paid crazy money for once and that we've done the deal early. Takes the pressure off to a certain extent and means we will be in a better bargaining position (less desperate) for any other strikers we go for.

He's a very good player, who'll score goals if you play him as the central striker. In comparison to Borini he's a cheap as chips!
