12 Million is not a small amount if he doesn't improve, I'm not against the signing but I have concerns as do others that if doesn't improve then he really isn't good enough, like I said though if he does improve then the 12 million will be a good investment.
When you look at Downing at 20, Henderson at 16-18, Carroll at 35 then I would say 12 is a low ammount. Borini also! Sturrdige is already a far better player with much more potential. He has already done as much as they did when they were linked with us (perhaps with the exception of Downing) yet stands to cost us much less. I don't think he needs to improve his on field ability that much. He's a little gready but i'm sure the boss can sort that out. He's already shown he can score goals and thats exactly what we need. Doesn't work out then we sell him for 8 - not a huge loss when you consider the farce that is Ince coming back here.
Starting to think Sturridge might be going through the middle with Suarez off of him, there's a quote from a Liverpool site about Rodger's discussing transfers at a recent press conference: "He spoke at length about the type of mobile forward who we require, somebody who can get in and around the penalty area whilst Suarez floats and attacks from either the side or possibly even the number ten position using his creativity to unlock opposition defences."

The values of the players you mention were a joke though. Anyway I'm not disagreeing I think he has potential and am looking forward to the signing and seeing him play. He can play wide right and through the middle so he's versatile enough to rotate in the front 3. Lets hope he clicks straight away.
Yep Medical done, term of the contract done. And a week before he can sign up.. No hanging about good to see us doing the work early
Agree with all you said other than the price bit. Compared to Veron, Downing was a steal too. Compared to Torres, Carroll was also a steal. Compared to Phil Jones, Henderson was a steal. Quite obviously when discussing a players value it's useless to base that off of what other players have gone for. All of those listed went for too much in the first place. (Similarly to that, I hate the notion that a youth player can demand 50k "because Cole and Downing are on 90k". They shouldn't be on 90 in the first place, they should be going down to match the level of others, not the other way around.) So Sturridge may seem cheap in comparison to those listed, but in terms of actual value anything more than 12 is a risk and not a good value for money buy. But yes, while I'd rather see us scouting Europe for cheaper, more talented youth, the idea of Sturridge/Walcott have grown on me a bit, and either of those two would be decent signings at the right price. Both have the physical and technical skills that other English youth don't, and are still young enough to get better.
Liverpool need three things right now, Versitility Reasonable price and a goal scorer Sturidge ticks all three boxes. Liverpool are screaming for a forward who attacks the 6yd box. Suarez is awesome but likes to start deep, Sterling is quick as lightening and great control and touch but doesnt attack deep into the box, Shelvey attacks from deep and late. You are missing someone on the 6yd line though to toe poke in occassionally. Sturidge will lead the line letting suarez work his magic, and sterling hang out wide, and turn defenders. Still think you need another decent wide attacker though, Suso looks like he is missing something, Downing has een ok lat few games but lacks pace and confidence, Shelvey isnt a wide player, and put Gerrard there and you lose his drive through the middle. Ba might be ok, as could Walcott, though personally think the answer is abroad (purely for cost). Other then that a new full back (either side as Johnson can cover either flank) and I think you will shoot up league For me I would play: Riena Johnson, Agger, Skirtel, Enrique Gerrard, Allen, Lucas Sterling, Sturidge, Suarez Sub: Jones, Carra, Coates, Surin, Henderson, Shelvey, Downing (or new striker) Strong CB's, width and pace from full backs, controlling midfield would will chase, tackle and spread play along with supporting forward, then tons of pace up top with someone attacking the box
