Best Driver: Vettel. With no running of note on Friday he nailed qualifying and drove flawlessly in the race. Worst Driver: Schumacher, I'm afraid (sorry, Manny). As usual there was some questionable behaviour from him on the track. Best Rookie: n/a Best Team: Red Bull, I suppose, but I think Ferrari performed well, too. Worst Team: Mercedes - didn't deliver on their promise again. Best Overtake: Button on Rosberg. Rosberg expected the undercut, Button went around the outside. Funniest-moment: The two Renaults squabbling and trying to force each other into an unscheduled pit-stop. Most Surprising Result: Kobayashi only finished 10th!!1!1 Least Surprising Result: Vettel's victory. Special Mention to: Perez for trying right to the very end. Race Rating: 7/10 I thought it petered out towards the end and I got that half-forgotten but familiar feeling that the finishing positions were decided some time before the end of the race. Best BBC commentator/presenter: Brundle today. Worst BBC commentator/presenter: EJ. He wasn't too bad today, to be fair, but on principle... True, but he should leave it back in the past if he is presenting the race to millions across the country.
Touche! True, professionalism should dictate that, I guess its hard though after you've spent the majority of your career battling against someone.
Also worth pointing out Michael gave him a lot of ammunition today. Did laugh though when Eddie Jordan asked Coulthard if he felt sad about watching Schumacher struggle. He tried to spin the question, but his face clearly said "No"

Best Driver: Rosberg - after all the problems, its good to see he still managed 5th, despite him beating a Mclaren!! Worst Driver: Schumacher - can't knock the fact he never gives up though Best Rookie: di Resta - in his usual good position, until his car packed up on him Best Team: Renault - very hard to chose, but Renault scored good points, and consistency is up Worst Team: HRT Best Overtake: The first Hamilton/Button string of overtakes Funniest-moment: Jenson 'complementing' Eddie's shirt choices! Best Driver: Although Vettel did nothing wrong, I give this to Alonso, simply because he had more to think about and do; and did it well. Worst Driver: Easy: Schumacher. He should not be there. Tacky and amateurish; put to shame by near novices in worse cars. Best Rookie: For the first time, this was not di Resta. No outstanding performances here but I'll give this to Perez. Best Team: Another no-brainer: Red Bull were virtually flawless: the only team it was impossible to criticise. Worst Team: McLaren made several costly errors and were unable to use their planned-for upgrades. But Williams were worse. Best Overtake: Hamilton Button/Button Hamilton combination; 1st time around when on equal tyres. - That was the definition of racecraft. Funniest moment: Brundle's candour on the grid. Most Surprising Result: di Resta had to have a bad day but I confess I expected better. Least Surprising Result: Vettel's win Special Mention to: Schumacher: it's time to read the writing your wall. - It was written a long time ago and you are still making spiteful moves on better drivers. Race Rating: 8.5: very entertaining but with a clear winner who was not challenged. Best BBC commentator/presenter: Brundle. Witty; human; amusing and with good director skills. He also knows when to stop talking and how to admit his errors. (Legard take note). Worst BBC commentator/presenter: Legard. Thankfully he's a thing of the past in spite of the BBC's double own-goal; first in considering him and then giving him a second season! - Ludicrous obstinacy by the Beeb in the face of a public outcry. Still, we must be thankful that they eventually listened… Best Commentary moment: Brundle's handling of the RTL guy who's name escapes me, during his grid walk Overall BBC coverage rating: 9.7
Best Driver: Alonso Worst Driver: Schumacher Best Rookie: D'Ambrosio Best Team: Red Bull Worst Team: Williams Best Overtake: Petrov on Schumacher Funniest-moment: I can't think of any Most Surprising Result: Alonso 3rd, didn't think they had that kind of pace Least Surprising Result: Vettel Special Mention to: Kobayashi Race Rating: 8/10 Last season I'd have given that a ten, but we've come to expect so much now. Still loving it, but we can't give every race a ten.
This is a very very good point. Expectations alter perceptions, and vice versa. And oddly enough, past perceptions can alter present perceptions too! Very good point A'Glorious: it can be applied to almost anything but is very relevant for F1 right now!
Hmm... like cosicave I agree with your point, and I suppose races should be judged in relation to their own season, but that race... Like most people I thought the Turkish GP was very exciting while watching it unfold but, in retrospect, I think the vague sense of ennui I alluded to earlier was due to the fact that nothing much actually happened. Of course there was lots of action and chaos but there wasn't much of a story within the race. Alonso and Rosberg swapped places, Kobayashi came from dead last up to 10th, and Buemi had a good day. Other than that it was very much 'as you were' by the end of the race. I must admit, I'm a bit concerned about the 'artificiality' argument taking on a new significance - not in relation to a specific manoeuvre on the circuit but in relation to the outcome of the race. Like the processional races of yore, drivers' finishing positions yesterday owed more to the qualifying result than anything that happened in the race. The new tyres, DRS and KERS might have injected some uncertainty but they didn't really contribute anything to the final result and, for all the overtaking that was done, none of the moves actually stuck to the end of the race (except Alonso/Rosberg, Kobayashi and Buemi). It might just have been a one off, and you could equally argue that the fastest cars won and isn't that what we want? But if improved and/or more strategic racing doesn't enable the race to affect the qualifying result then what has it achieved? I might be totally wrong to read the Turkish GP that way but it is bothering me, not least because I'm very enthusiastic about the new regs.
