Wrexham v Sunderland 1979... I was at that game, and I dare bet I'm not the only one from this site..
Anyway, it has been on ITV 4 this morning and will be starting again on +1 in a few minutes..It was certainly a memorable day!

I wasn't there (was born in 1979) so must have been later that year. I was named after Kevin arnott and I've never seen him play so I'm guessing he's playing in this game?

Ill stick it on and watch!

My first ever away game. I was 14. The memory of it has stayed with me all these years.

So did we miss out on promotion that year?

Also was that the season we beat newcastle 4-1 away? If so were was Rowell in the Wrexham game?

See newcastle didn't do us any favours!

What it didn't show you today was that the tannoy at Wrexham announced that we were promoted and everyone was celebrating, only to then give a correction to tell us we had missed out..

I was there with a bunch of mates and we all thought we had been promoted at the end..we were given duff info by the guy on the tanoy at Wrexham, but we were standing underneath the TV gantry and Gerald Sinstad who I think was commentating that day..shouted the score for the Stoke game...gutted.

But for those who were there and othe games like ..Cardiff away, Man City away, the Charlton play off final..gut wrenching games, but its why we are Sunderland fans..we love it.

Dont forget the Wimbledon last away day relegation trip as well.

All glorious failures but failures nevertheless. When will we be able to talk about success kidda instead of failures.

I was at all of those above except Cardiff.

Chuck in the Liverpool and Norwich Cup finals, the Millwall Semi Final and the Halloween horror show last year and my misery is complete and thats without mentioning the infamous Gillingham game.

I really do question my sanity at times and then I've just arranged to go to the Bolton game in 2 weeks time for the FA Cup. Madness. Lol

Jeff Clarke. Now there was a very classy defender imo. Broke my heart when we let him go in 82, stating his legs had gone and he went to the craas and played on there another 5 seasons with them.

He would be worth a fortune in today's game as a ball playing centre back.
