Redknapp saying that his team are only average and overpaid...bit different from after their last result. Has also said he won't be buying in January. People (aka the media) thing HR is a good manager...how does a public tirade help team spirit. Blast them behind closed doors by all means, but all this is designed to do is explain why relegation (if it comes) is nothing to do with him. The news he won't be buying in January is not a total surprise, bearing in mind their wage bill, but again he is getting his excuses in early.
Can go either way. Can cause more problems or can create a "we'll show him" kind of attitude. They will buy big in January and will stay up IMO.
I wonder what Pompey fans thought of his comments. 108% of revenue on wages at Fratton. The hypocrisy reaches out of your telly and slaps you in the face. No, I don't expect anything to change there in January, and it will send them down.
Not only a hyopcrite, but it could be one of the few truths to leave his mouth this season!! We're not used to that sort of talk from HR.
Probably the most scathing attack on a managers own players I have ever heard. I bet they will want to work real hard for him now He knew what the deal with QPR was when he took over, why make such a fuss now?
I actually think it was a good move by Harry. Not only is he being brutally honest, but it'll probably help him determine which players are going to be determined to prove themselves and fight for the team like professionals, and which are going to be whiny overpaid children who he can offload ASAP. He wants to build a squad of players who are in it for the right reason and who respond well to criticism.
And he also says he thinks a move to Milan will open doors to the likes of Barca and Real. Idiot of the highest order.
At least you can rely on 'Arry to respect confidentiality. (How much was it he said Jose Bosingwa is paid a week?)
He is an idiot. Whe. They win its great management, when they lose its the players fault! Levy did the right thing, you can't have a manager that constantly undermines the club and chairman to the press, I need more money, need more players, can't compete with the budget we have, etc. he is the worst kind of employee.
I doubt that it helps team morale for Redcrap to be slagging off players in public but I do see Harry's point. However, I think it's worse that Harry slagged off, or at least took a bit of a side swipe, at Hughes for signing the players. IMO a player going off form is one of those things and no reason for a manager to knock them, but if theyre just coasting through their time at a club, picking up a good wage and making little effort, then they should not be surprised to get criticism, but it's bad form for a manager to criticise the previous manager.
He uses the media to be able to get a "I told you so" answer in should they get relegated and to get money he may not get if it wasn't out in the public. When he came to Saints he said that our squad was Championship at best, so when we got relegated it was their fault not his. That Championship squad was pretty much the one that got us to an eighth placed finish and a cup final. By coming out with his "bare bones" comments and how he needs to strengthen puts pressure on the owners as the fans will blame them if he's not given the money to improve, so again its not Harry's fault. I think he is actually pretty clever with his comments and plays the media very well. He doesn't really tell them anything they don't already know but does it in a way it seems like he's just leaking info to them.
Looks like those of us who thought Redknapp couldn't save them (and there were a few amongst us Saints!) are turning out to be have been right. Them and Reading look dead and buried, just hope we can keep our heads above water!
