Newcastle vs Sunderland - Could it go down to goal difference?

  1. I think Sunderland have the two easier games with Wolves and West Ham,
but these two teams are fighting for their lives where as Sunderland aren't fighting for anything now except keeping their injury list down.

Do you think Sunderland will achieve all 6 pts from their last two games or do you think Wolves and West ham will be all up for it and beat Sunderland?

Personally i could see Sunderland getting beat by Wolves at home and then beating West Ham on the final day as West Ham could be relegated with a game to go. If they don't beat Wigan or atleast get a point and if Blackpool win against Bolton then i think they're mathematically relegated.

I see both teams getting 3 pts, and i think we'll finish higher on goal difference.

No they won't, you look at Wolves now and they are playing well albeit with help from West Brom, but the mackems will struggle against them and West Ham will need the win, whereas Chelsea may be out of the title run in so nothing really to play for and West Brom will be safe so again nothing to play for.

Yeah I'm with you, I think we'll both win one lose one and we'll finish higher on GD.

Think Sunderland have the easier games and should finish above us, probably by a point.

Whatever happens I am proud of this season. We all targeted 17th and we can still finish 8th, albeit unlikely!

TBH it would be nice to finish above you lot, but I'm no longer that bothered. Dropping like a stone from 6th has been a huge disappointment and with the injury list we have I just want the season done with. It would be nice to see the younger players get a run out in the last two games, but limping into a top ten finish doesn't light my fire. Be more interested in how our clubs spend the Bent/Carroll money in the summer now. New season in August, after all :)

  8. In any case, i'd rather finish below them by a few points and humiliate them twice, then finish above them and have them beat us 5-1....

No matter what happens between now and the end of the season you'll have still had the better season and the so-called 'bragging rights' until next season. We set out for top 10 and when we were sitting comfortably in 6th by Christmas there was a sense that we could challenge for Europe although deep down it was more just hope than expectation. You wanted 17th and will finish around 11th. We wanted 10th and will finish around 11th.

But next year when we have Asamoah, Sess and Insomnia (hehe) all fit and ready we'll be looking for a spot of revenge ;)

Think we'll lose at Chelsea and draw at home to West Brom, I think Sunderland will get 4 points and finish above us, sorry lads!

Unless you sell him to Bayern Munich. He should be playing Champions League football.

As far as our fixtures go, if Man Utd draw/win away at Blackburn on Saturday, they've won the league and I think Chelsea will either narrowly beat us or we'll draw. If they lose, Chelsea can still win it so they'll batter us about 15 - 0. I think we could get revenge on the Baggies for humiliating us at the Hawthorns and end the season on a high.

I think the Mackems will probably finish above us, they've got two easy games in my opinion and should win them both. Both may put up a fight but I don't think either are good enough to win. And even if Sunderland are losing, they've been by far and away the spawniest team this season so they'll nick the three points that way.

    I actually don't care...

At the end of the day, both teams have had massive highs and massive lows this season, of the two clubs, we can certainly be the happier, but this comes down the fact that we had less to lose!

We're the emerging side again, we're the ones who were 'the laughing stock of the premiership', where as Sunderland spent millions, brought in their own choice of manager and were talking about Europe before the season began.

We've both had our star striker sold for a large fee, we've both struggled to bring in a replacement (time restraints included) we've both had poor cup runs, we've both sat in european spots and it appears that we'll both finish comfortably mid-table!

As far as I'm concerned we won the battle for pride on Halloween, and the fight for next season could well be decided at the opening of the transfer window!

As long as both teams stay up that's all that matters if Europe is out of the question.

<doh> Just when some reasonable discussion gets going and then that is thrown into the mix...

We have Wolves (H) and West Ham (A). Would like to get 4 points out of that but tbh I just want a win lol

...and no. Nobody expected Europe before the season began at all! When we were 6th at Christmas then I think any team (yours included) would think they were in with a shot at the top 7 especially with the likes of Villa, Everton and Liverpool struggling around that time. If you;d asked the vast majority of Sunderland fans last august they would have took a top 10 finish easily.
