I'm not some St George's flag waving ****wit like stopme, I don't even support a Premiership team. But you have to admit that it's one of the best leagues in the world, if not the best. You can argue the stats of past Champs League winners, the money involved, etc.... But it's pretty obvious that Spain, England and Germany are the best leagues in Europe, and it's nearly impossible to tell which is the best of the 3 due to the unpredictability of football. All I know is I'd rather watch League 2 footie whilst punching myself repeatedly in the testes than watch a bottom of the league SPL game. If you can't admit that the Scottish league is ****ing awful then I know who's deluded. (apart from Celtic who are an alright team, but would be a yo-yo club in the PL)
No one has offered any evidence that the EPL is over rated/ average/ inferior to any other. All we have is a load of jealous Scots spilling their bile hatred.
Most Scottish fans know the limitations of the SPL and how gash it can be ... it's just when you read the constant "it's a mickey mouse" league from the EPL fanboys, it gets tiresome. The EPL, of course, is one of the top leagues in the World - but it is overated.
This applies to your ****wit too Pud, can't you ban him to only the Celtic board? He's been lurking here with his pish recently
Good, competitive leagues are normally a product of their environment (like most stuff). The key ingredients I can see are: 1. Affluence 2. A large population 3. A proud regionalised populace with historical reasons for Otherism against other regions In all three of those, England, Germany, Spain and Italy are the obvious environments within which a competetive football league would flourish. Toby, you're the first English person on this thread to even contemplate that the EPL MIGHT not be better than Spain or Germany. Every other one has steamed in with the Murdoch-led propoganda that it's untouchable. At no point has anyone in Scotland said that our league is anything other than awful. However, like Harry said, the geographical closeness to England is a major factor in that - the same way in the early 90s that Serie A ruined football in previously competitive nations like Austria and the baltic nations - as well as plundering the best talents from the Netherlands in particular. Serie A imploded - it's just getting back on its feet. It's a lesson to every team in the EPL spunking money on average players. Celtic being a "yo-yo club" in the EPL is entirely subjective - we've already outperformed Man City and Chelsea in the CL with about 1% of their budget and a bit of gallusness. If we got English TV money, it would be a failure NOT to win the CL every few years as the teams we play would always have been assembled for less money than ours. The Bundesliga is the best league in the world. It's been operating on an FFP level for a few years and had a pricing policy to keep it affordable for fans. The German FA will shove it right up every Chelsea, Man City and every other English team trying to buy success with other country's money when they win the CL again.
Celtic's last game against St Mirren. This was the starting line up and subs. 1 Forster 23 Lustig 4 Ambrose 6 Wilson 2 Matthews 8 Brown 33 Kayal 67 Wanyama 21 Mulgrew 9 Samaras 88 Hooper subs used 3 Izaguirre 11 Nouioui 20 McCourt Out of the 14 how many were scottish?
I agree with you Bib, nothing wrong with any of those points. It's just a bit rich having *****s like harryhood on here too saying the PL is ****e when it really isn't, there have been loads of awesome games recently. I'd much rather watch a Man Utd vs Arsenal than R Madrid vs Barcelona, but then again it's down to my preferred style of football. This is one of the most pointless arguments on here, I'm not getting any more involved in it. Have a nice xmas!
2 - fair point Although, that does include Scott Brown who is our most expensive player. We balked at paying £1million for Steven Fletcher. He's now being thrown about in England for silly money. How many of them cost us more than Sunderland paid for Steven Fletcher? Answer: none The whole squad cost about the same as Swansea paid us for Ki.
The strength of the league (or not) is because of the over population of foreign players you cretinous moron. But just you pick to suit sonny.
...and what you said was spot on. It gets really annoying when EPL fans run our team and league down because their team is backed by Arabs/Russians/Yanks England has ten times our population - the league and national team should be ten times better than ours. I would've loved to have got Chelsea or Man City in the CL this year. Absolutely loved it.
Who was the Watford fan on the Celtic board that time that tried to use Elton John's record sales as a WUM? ST might remember
