Sunderland midfielder David Meyler will be recalled from his loan spell at Hull after the Tigers' trip to Derby in the Championship tonight. Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill says: "They play tonight and he would be recalled for the Christmas period, which we will have to do." Meyler's return has been expected ever since skipper Lee Cattermole was ruled out for two months by a knee injury, although the 28-day rule prevented his immediate recall.
Well thats fair enough. Looking at Sunderlands injury worries MON may end up as a sub soon. At least we have Paul Mckenna fresh and ready to rumble over Christmas. Assuming of course that Meyler does go.
Pretty much expected, as long as Cairney plays as well as he did when he came on last week, we should be fine.
I think it's big problem. Tc came on for evans, Meyer scores goals Evans tc McKenna oli don't. Get rid of oli and McKenna ASAP and get a proper attacking cm in.
Completely different types of player. I rate tc highly, but, he is a sitting cm. so are Evans, McKenna and oli.
I agree. I think TC is very similar to Meyler but he doesn't tend to get into the box and on the end of things as much. That being said he is far better at passing than Meyler. This is where we see how strong the squad is. To be honest the only positions that concern me are Goalkeeper and Goalscorer. I think the rest are covered as far as the squad is concerned. That being said I thought Meyler was showing signs of true quality and will be sorry to see him go back.
Chazz. Meyler is not an attacking mid. We have Koren for that. Meyler is a Box to box mid with a lot of energy. We have adequate cover but would like him back next month.
Playing with words a little there Easy. So your saying we have adequate permanent cover for a. Better loan player who may or may not return? I suggest then we need to strengthen. Getting rid of oli and McKenna will free up money to do this.
I don't think we'll see Meyler again, he only came to us to regain match fitness and he's pretty much done that now.
Meyler will be a miss for us, he's really looked the part these last couple of games. Hopefully Cairney and Evans will step in and do a good job.
Bugger, thought we`d got away with this one after Sb`s comments yesterday in press conference, The problem I see is that Meyler and Evans combined well in the middle, both like to get a foot in, sadly TC aint that type of player and may make it easier for teams to get through us, Oli has all the attributes but often goes missing when needed most, and McKenna may be pushed to keep up through the heavy fixture list of Christmas, think this may hurt us more then we anticipate, hope I`m wrong.
it ll be interesting to see if Mr Bruce pitches Evans in to combat the 'wonder-kid' Hughes, or indeed if he plans to fight 'wonder-kid' fire with our own version in Cairney.
