Not sure that the FL has the power, let alone the desire to fine someone who has no current role in football. The most that they could do I think, is make sure that he never owned another club.
If we were to fail to get promotion because of penalties from the FL as a result of the actions LB, I wonder if we could sue him for lost income?
What is going on with this? Been away a few days due to work...seems like it is still in the pipeline...like a bullet in the chamber...
I like to think I am laid back, and I can hang like a poster. However, this does cross my mind now and again, I just hope the Pozzo's can deal with him properly. I ahve no doubt they know what they are going to do, let's just hope it doesn't hurt WFC. Cheers for the update OFH !!
Hopefully this will all blow over, but if we are deemed guilty, a seven figure fine seems the most sensible option. If we have done what we are accused of doing, the authorities will punish us. Otherwise it makes a mockery of their own rules. But by giving us a points deduction or transfer embargo, it would be almost impossible for us to take the matter further. By attaching a direct monetary value to the misdemenour, and make clear that they consider someone no longer at the club to be responsible, they're giving us a head of steam. A whopping fine could prompt us to do something that might discourage owners of other clubs from taking similar actions in future.
I hate to say but I see parallels with our friends up the M1 who were twice relegated due to financial shenanigans of one sort or another at least once after new owners came in to sort out their mess. I know it's not quite the same, we did not go into administration for a start, but their new owners had to pay for the sins of the previous incumbents (not to mention they are L*t*n after all) and what was it, 30 points? I've a friend of a friend who apparently works for the Pozzo's as a business auditor or some such accountant and (no details as such forthcoming) I was told we were right in the doo doo when they took over, more so than we ever knew about as the published accounts suggest. Whatever we can expect the brown smelly stuff to hit the whirly object pretty damned soon.
Looking back at the WO article that broke the news about the charges, there is a lot of detail about the goings on at the time of the transfers, something that I don't think would have been published without giving the club sight of it first. How did Frank Smith get hold of this information without receiving a tip off from inside the club? It seems that he has a good relationship now with the officials at the club, something I don't think he had with Baz. It could still come down to was Baz working alone, denying staff access to the deals. Let us not forget the safe episode! If that could be proven then the league might well fine the club for a technical breach of their regulations and save their fire power for the man himself. I am still not clear what sanctions apart from disqualifying him from football club ownership they can place on him, so why should he who is unlikely to ever be trusted to pay up money to buy another club be worried enough to employ lawyers to fight this out? If there is the possibility of legal charges being brought against him for something like fraud, then the whole matter could drag on for months.
Bradford City's appeal against their expulsion from the FA Cup has been successful and they have been reinstated to the competition. The Bantams were kicked out last week after it emerged they had not filed all the requisite paperwork to play on-loan defender Curtis Good against Brentford. City believed the punishment was excessive and the Football Association has fined them £1,000 instead. Still nothing from the FL about the case at Watford. This would suggest that it is not as straight forward as the Bradford foul up. I still believe that the club will try to place all the blame on Baz and hope that the FL will accept that he was acting alone. Should there be a case brought for unlawful behaviour against him, I feel it would help the cause. That is if he has done anything illegal.
Funny how the club has been charged and then nothing. I suppose this could take years to play out, even longer than the Steve Terry thing as the evidence will be more difficult to find.
Anyone seen the statement from the supporters trust? Fascinating @WFCSuppTrust statement all but accuses Bankrupt Baz of stealing over £2M from #watfordfc - crikey
Bradford got off on the basis that it was a "genuine error" on Bradford's behalf and that "no attempt to deceive was made". I'm sure Law-rants (as he now spells his name) made a similarly unfortunate genuine error, without ever intending to deceive.
The Baz show is back in town. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/10121911.Russo_brothers_freeze_Bassini_s_assets/
So it looks like the suspicion that Baz was being bankrolled by the Salad Boys may have some substance OFH.
