Who in everyone's opinion from the current squad could go on to be considered as a club legend.. not just a great a player (I think we have many of those - Lambert, Fonte, Chaplow, Llanna), but I'm talking a true and proper legend - up there with Keegan, Channan and Letiss.. For me, it has to be Davis... He's a great keeper - the 19 clean sheets this season testify to that - but more than that and the one thing to mark out a legend in this day and age - his loyalty. I'm sure we all remember him about to sign for West Ham - with the potential to play in the Premiership, and then on hearing the news of our clubs rescue - he decides to play in L1... he obviously truely loves this club. This for me marks him out as Legendary... so if anyone else agrees with me on this, lets here a few chants of "Kelvin Davis... what an effin legend.." at todays game..
I completely agree with everything that has been said, he truly is a club legend who has taken the club to his heart Good on ya Kelv. Super Kelv.
Admire loyalty, because it's so rare these days. Not that any of us would turn down a large pay rise to be honest.
Love the man. He got absolutely bundled to the floor when the pitch invasion happened. He was standing there with his arms raised triumphantly, and got clean-out wiped by about 5 Northamers. Loved it today.
Glad to see a positive article on kelvin davis as lots of people are not fans of Davis on here Kelvin is a great keeper, he makes some fantastic saves at vital points in games, and his influence cannot be underestimated. He gets less credit than he deserves for the clean sheet record as although the back four in front of him has been outstanding, he organises that defence superbly Something that also goes unnoticed is his ability to read through balls and mop them up. He is out off his line in a flash and he prevents certain one-one-one goalscoring opportunities with his great reading of the game. I think the term club legend is a bit too far... but certainly he deserves a mention for his contribution over the last 2 or 3 years particularly where he has been outstanding and his loyalty to the club in what were extremely difficuilt times for the club... SUPER KELV!
I reckon Bart could go on to be a club legend once Kelvin hangs up his gloves. He's been with us what, 5/6 years? He could easily cut it at Championship, probably even Premiership level, but he's chosen to remain with us as a number 2. I've noticed he celebrates every goal like a proper fan as well. As brilliant as Kelvin has been, and I agree that he'll go down as one of the greats, I'd love for Bart to be given a chance as a reward for his loyalty.
Sorry guys not sure I can go along with the "Great" tag for Davis. I have no real trouble with his goal keeping as such, but to call him great is too big a title. Great goalkeepers for me are the Peter Shiltons Anti Nemie's of this world. Long serving players with international history. Davis despite his loyalty is for at best a good servant and a goad goalkeeper for Saints.

Sorry its taken 5 years to reply. One area of his game that I would say was great was his positional sense. I used to coach goalkeeping (although I played centre forward but never mind about that) and I genuinely think that he was up there with the best of them in getting himself into the right position. Niemi had amazing reflexes and Shilton was arguably the best ever. But Davis was very decent. I think my favourite Davis moment was when he came on after Forster got injured. The reception he got and the fact that he then had a great game.
Even more so after listening to the radio Solent interview with him. A couple of weeks ago, he confirmed he was training with WHU and to quote, (well maybe paraphrase..) "as soon as I received the call from Southampton, I knew I had to return, EVEN THOUGH WEST HAM WAS MORE LUCRATIVE.." Pure proper legend. He truly did it for the love of the club and not for the money... A gem of a man.. Let's hope he stays on in some capacity...
