If runours are to be believed then Jol is interested in bringing Lewis Mcgugan to the Cottage in january. He is a classy player that would slot in brilliantly for us. He is a proper box to box midfielder that can use the ball well and will get goals as well. His £5,000 a week contract runs out in the summer so we could get him on the cheap. I went to watch Brighton play Forets this weekend and whilst he did not play, they also had a huge centre midfielder playing call Guy Moussi, more defensive but a double coup would be very impressive. I think we were interested in him a few seasons ago, so I wonder if we are going to look at previous targets: Andrey Arshavin Vegard Forren Yoann Gouffran Chris David Douglas Paul Robinson Marounne Chamakh !!!! Froggie Have seen both these players several times, and like many of the Brighton supporters an not to impressed with either. Now a player i would not mind seeing down at the cottage (and he wants a move) is Samba of Zenit.I think he not only could fit nicely but would give our defence, the stability and resolve we are looking for. In the Jan window i feel that we must bolster our defensive line up with someone who is part of a premiership squad.
The papers are saying it would be a pre-contract agreement. To be honest I'm not quite sure what that means but guessing it's to give us first option when his current contract runs out in the summer. Seems a decent prospect, the right age and it would be nice to have a right sided midfielder. Certainly packs a wallop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA-ohaDYLQc As rosc says though, we need someone proven in January.
No. We need someone good in January. Proven players sometimes flop and unproven ones sometimes fly. I was going to say Samba was too old, but according to Wikipedia, he's only 28. If that's the case he'd be a fantastic signing, although I'd still like us to go for that Norwegian we were linked with a few weeks back. As for McGugan's contract, if I've understood it correctly, signing a pre-contract agreement basically means we and he are committed to the transfer, but it doesn't come into effect until his existing contract with Forest expires in the summer. I've not seen McGugan but I've heard good things about him.
Spot on Captain, and exactly what Jol said in his press interview today. This is the local paper report -
