It is pretty obvious that this club does not function the way it once did, got me thinking on ways the club could start to build a new bond between all involved. I can remember a time when a good few players and indeed at least one manager would come into the club house at the end of the game, I can remember Graydon sat at the bar chatting to the fans, and Rammell sat at the far end of the room with us lot, great memories indeed and what ever we thought of Graydon, you have to hand it to the bloke to come in and share some time with the fans. So my ideal, and for the life of me I cant see any reason it could not happen is get some players in again, for a chat, sign a few autographs, if I were John Ward I would make it my business to make this happen and whats more be in there myself also, the club needs to bond from the top down and quick, personally I feel it would be a great ideal on the directors parts to make an effort also. If we are all in it together then lets start showing it, the players at this moment in time might just as well play at the other end of the country, to me they are almost strangers on the pitch, that is not good.
Its must likely because the players would rather go into town and get pissed up but I agree it would be nice to see the players mingle with fans after matches I remember this happened a lot with the friendly matches. Blimey could you imagine Buckle sitting in the bar after hanging with fans
Probably right there Gas, I dont see any reason the players couldnt come into the bar after though, I know there have been a couple of unsavoury words spoken when this has happened in the past in hard times, but this club really needs players and fans together.
There are many things I've seen clubs big and small do over the years. Wenger standing with the fans when he got sent off (not that i'm recommending JW do anything to get on the naughty steps, but if he did, I wouldn't remain as cross) Players actually celebrating with the fans, pretty sure you don't get carded for putting your head in the crowd, just jumping in or taking your shirt off. We'll all be happy to rejoice in a goal, come join us. If we stay up the club should invite fans along for a kick about day with the players, penalty shoot outs, mini 5 a side, skills etc, and everyone that comes should get a scarf or some kind of momento Drinking in the bar is a good one, tends to stop happening once teams make it into the football league but at non league level loads of players come and chat post match with fans and it breeds a sense of community i think. Another good thing would be for the manager to keep us informed of players in the youth system that are catching his eye. I am a Gashead mainly due to Marcus Stewart, hearing about this young kid on the up and then every week he was on points west smashing them in, was thrilling, gave us a sense that we had a good future for the club . . . and it would get the youth players working their socks off if they thought there may be a chance of a breakthrough into the senior team But No1 for me has to be a player of quality, we need one for us all to take to our hearts who has a massive say on games and wants nothing more than to punch his chest and salute the crowd . . . we had Stewart, Hayles, Ellington, Richard, Lambs, Cambs etc, but really we have lost a significant talisman since Lambert went. Don't get me wrong, last thing I want is for us to be a one man club, but when we had a player of significant talent actually playing for us, the whole team seemed to get a lift. I know our position won't command us much opportunity for grabbing such a talent, but we are one of the most supported clubs in L2 & L1, And if you want to be loved, there's a lot of heart here going to waste!
i was thinking the same when reading this. ward mentioned he wants to bring back the spirit of the 90's well in the 90's they did this sort of thing at twerton. ward and higgs said were all in this together but it does seem them and us. if they want us all in this together they need to come to our level. gashead82, you been getting the petitions sorted for the stadium on the OS forum, you are well respected there i feel, maybe you should take this thread or suggestions from the guys above and send it to BSS
