out of the relgeation zone only on goal difference this is a game that we have to win i also think fulham away is a game we can't afford to lose if we dont get atleast 4 points from our next 3 games we will be relegated.

I agree that this is definitely what we should be aiming for! Possibly a tad OTT to suggest we will be relegated if we don't achieve this. I cannot see us getting anything from Stoke away though so the next two games are very important.

yeah maybe a bit over dramatic i just see the second half of the season being alot tougher than the first half we have done well recently but dropped points against swansea and norwich at home i feel could cost us alot more then people think.

    -----------------Davis
    Clyne-----Fonte-----Yoshida-----Shaw
    ---------Morgan-----Cork
    Puncheon-----Ramirez------Rodriguez
    ----------------Lambert

Gazzaniga, Hooiveld, Reeves, Davis, Guly, Mayuka, Hoskins

Got to be Rodriguez on the left. 442 just don't work for us in the big league and I don't think anyone else has done enough to merit a start. Having a right footed striker on the left offends people's sense of orderand some just seem to will him to fail. He's actually done quite well out there and now that we have a solid fullback behind him, he can play with more confidence.

The U21s were fantastic the other night and a few of them are worth considering for the bench.

Isn't it this Friday. Bit irritating if it is as I have bought tickets for Saturday, still at least we will finish as a Premier League team.

Sorry but the evidence does not bear that out. We are at home against a relatively poor team so it's not much of a risk to play 2 up front, and that's exactly how we played for the Reading match, which we won.

What's more, Ramirez has played on the wing more in his career than in the centre, so he's certainly a better choice to play there than Rodriguez. Our wingers don't tend to stay wide anyway so he'll have plenty of the ball.

We would be mad to play 4-4-2 against any team that plays 4-2-3-1, or any formation that has one main forward. We'd get hammered. 4-4-2 does not work against most teams in the PL as most teams don't use 4-4-2. If we did use 4-4-2 then teams would tear straight through our midfield and we'd be on the end of a thrashing. The days of 4-4-2 are gone.

The front four (we have talked about this about 4 pages ago on this thread but hey ho) will be a fluid fusion of Ramirez on the left when chasing the ball, Lambert and J-Rod interchanging up top and in the hole, and Puncheon on the right but swapping/linking up with Ramirez. Rickie will also swap with Ramirez when attacking and the whole thing will be beautiful to behold. 3-0 Saints.

Sunderland are better than Reading. Hasn't always clicked for them this season, but they've got some talented players and we need to be mindful of that. They'll get the ball down and play if we let them and we don't want that happening.

This is how i see it too, the team formation has to be able to change during the course of a game to deal with the situation as it unravels. A rigid 442 would probably be asking for trouble but it can work when the occassion demands depending upon the opposition. 3-0 would be great on Sat but i think it will be somewhat closer than this !

Yep, like the sound of this fluid fusion. Is it anything to do with 1970s Jazz-Funk?

It's not the most common formation anymore but it is still used frequently so reports of its death are exaggerated. Saying it doesn't work because most teams don't use it is utterly bonkers logic.

Although most teams not using it because it doesn't work is utterly perfect logic.

Tom, Matt and Chilcoare right and As dman says its too rigid. We have been using 4231 for a while now and it doesn't mean you only have 1 up front and it isn't less attacking than 442 its more flexible.

To generalise when you have the ball with 442 your strikers are easier for the CBs to look after. The key is your 3 attcking midfielders getting up front at the right time and getting into spaces. You need players getting in the gap between the back 4 and midfield. The key for JRod is arriving in the area at the right time. Movement worries defences not two big guys standing still up front.

There is not many good linesmen nowadays judging the Fellini fiasco and the diving players etc. Anyhow we will not lose 2-0 as we will go for it against you lot on saturday and we have scored in most away matches this season and we have 'lionell sessi' playing great at the moment.
