What do people think of this...

Seven year old boy Neon Roberts has been told he requires urgent surgery to remove a brain tumour, but his mother is unwilling to consent.

However a court ruling today has said he should have the operation even without the mother's consent. The operation can be carried out today.

What do we think of this? Fair, correct? Unfair to the mother?

The mother thought the treatment would cause long term health issues. I mean for ****s sake woman there won't be a long term if he doesn't get treatment. <doh>

I suppose the child's rights over-ride the mother's right to refuse. It's very difficult, but the court would have had to be convinced that the surgery was (a) necessary for the child's survival and (b) offered a good chance of survival and cure. The other thing is of course the time element. Any form of malignant tumour (if that's what it was) needs to be dealt with ASAP to stand a good chance of remission, and avoidance of secondaries etc.

All in all I agree with the decision.

I would need to know what are the chances of Neon surviving to lead a worthwhile life...worthwhile to him. I am usually on the side of science, but sometimes people don't seem to be able to accept that the time has come to let go. Will he survive, for how long, what is the quality of life he can expect? Without treatment...same questions. Do you realise that some 'successful' cancer treatments give you just a few extra months...not worth going through with it.

The question would be easy if he needed an appendix removed...choice should be removed from the mother. Perhaps in this case a mother's love would make the best choice.

Ms Roberts, 37, a New Zealander who lives in Brighton, East Sussex, had initially refused the radiotherapy saying that after research she feared radiotherapy would a "damaging effect" on Neon's future.

Think the mother was told by a doctor that radiotherapy would fry his brain and change her son for ever. With little chance of long term survival, I think she decided that she would rather leave her son as he was for the last months of his life. She has said that she is sorry she ran away with him and that she isn't a nutter, but she wanted to have all the facts before making a decision. I am not an advocate of hanging on to life for the sake of it...quality of life is all important. Feel for the doctors making this decision...hope it all works out well.

I'm just hoping that there is a communist candidate in my constituency for the next election. I am fed up with living under the Tory yoke.

Today the Queen attended the cabinet meeting so I had a go at writing a speech for her. This is it.

Good Morning Mr Cameron and good morning everyone.

I would like to start by asking when are you lot going to start doing something to improve the lives of my subjects instead of looking after your chums in the city and lining your own pockets?

The economy of this country has been ruined by you lot and your friends and before you blame Mr Brown let me just remind you that he is nowhere as big a twat as George "I tell big Porkies" Osborne.

The health care of my subjects is being neglected and they are being increasingly impoverished while you all grow fat along with your capitalist friends.

I want you to spend less time worrying about same sex marriage and women Bishops and put that level of energy into looking after the welfare of my people.

Put my people first not greed.

I am going to leave now as this room has the stench of greed, privilege and incompetence.

If my people have an ounce of sense they will kick you lot out on your arses come the next General Election and vote in that nice Boris Johnson and his friend Sebastian Coe.

Good morning and please don't ask me along again.

One morning spent with you incompetent money grubbers is more than enough for any sensible person.

My God how were my subjects ever taken in by you obnoxious lot?

I may vote UKIP next election, fed up with all the bullshit with the 'big 3'.

Just to change the subject, I see Brighton drew 2-2 with Millwall. Looking at the Brighton line-up, the thought suddenly struck me... do Dean Hammond and Wayne Bridge have little Saints chats occasionally..?

If so, I wonder what they say..? Must be an odd conversation, if they do. :)

If we just look at the "leave EU" mindset then I have an immediate dislike because leaving the EU would be daft but as well as that, the far-right views don't sit well with me and certainly, by no means is a vote for Farage a vote against bullshit.

Then vote for who?, they're all the same thing just with a different colour tie.
