Yet 16 of our 24 attempts were on target...I won't bother you with Swansea's!, but if there's one keeper that could have got a deck chair out and read the paper it was Lloris.
So you're saying what the guy says is inaccurate ?? Quite where 24 attempts come from I have no idea, I certainly never saw that many and I read a post yesterday from Spurs or Sex who said the same. Sorry mate, but it was half chances and speculative efforts before we became predicatble and ran out of ideas before we got a lucky break.
Hi SC The whole lot is tongue in cheek mate!...stats eh! ...I wonder if it included Sandro's one that went out for a throw!
Swansea's 2 centre backs were doing really well but our midfield were squeezing their midfield more and more despite having 2 against 3 most of the time. With regards to the stats, OPTA have us down for 29 shots - 12 blocked and 9 off target. Defoe had at least 2 chances he could/should have put away, Walker hit a sweet long ranger and fluffed a big chance but yeah there wasn't that many memorable chances and the ones we had we didn't work the 'keeper(of our 8 on target 5 were down the middle). Our best chances came once we were ahead but the first goal has always been important for us playing at home.
I can't say you deserved a point, baring in mind your philosphy is similar to ours in terms of entertaining and attacking football, it was a poor showing from yourselves in that department, I'd hate it if Spurs adopted a "defend for 75% then make a counter" approach, it's boring and not worth the money your fans paid for. Admittedly we weren't at our best either and I was surprised to see the stats in terms of how many shots we had on target but you guys certainly did not drop a "deserved" point. Vertonghen's goal is hard to call, his leg was slightly further up than the last defender's but there's always the argument that he's then played on side when the ball clips off your defender, naturally as a Spurs fan I'm calling it on side, of course if I were in your position I'd be saying offside, it's one of them scenarios. Tremmel was also tested more than what you say, Defoe had a one-on-one which he came out well to block and Adebayor's scuffed shot needed to him to palm it away, it looked as if it was probably hitting the post but no keeper would've taken that risk. We also scuffed some chances from good positions, Defoe had one or two inside the box that he scuffed wide or straight at Tremmel and Walker blasted wide a glorious chance when Defoe played him through, that wasn't down to your defence, more of a fact we just royally ****ed up some good chances. On the whole, despite us being far from our best and you guys parking the bus, we more than deserved our win, even if it wasn't the best of matches.
Any tight decision is supposed to favour the forward, don't know why the swans are moaning, it all evens out.
The officials could've easily interpreted it as Vertonghen not interfering with play from the initial pass, as it was nowhere near him. Once the defender heads it to him, his offside position becomes irrelevant. Given that Swansea literally didn't have a shot on target, I think it's hard to justify any claim of them being worth a point. I was a little annoyed that we didn't take any of our chances to kill the game off completely, to be honest, though Dean gave them a rather strange free-kick after Michu was felled, which prevented Townsend's opportunity. He should've stopped the game when the striker was knocked to the ground, but I have no idea where he got that decision from.
I think you can be almost certain of that PNP, had the ball gone direct to JV, yes OS, but the ball went near post with JV at the far. A knock on header from one of ours and OS again, but the header from their defender gives JV the benefit.
Vertonghen was "gaining an advantage" by being in an off-side position initially, so should have been called offside.
I certainly didn't think it was an easy game, and I felt before the game that Swansea had a decent chance of winning. I have to say I was glad to see them play negatively. Lots of teams have tried that this year and we've still scored in every game but one. So though I see Laudrup as doing an excellent job this year, I think he got it wrong this game. 29 shots surprises me. I thought one way Spurs looked different this game is in passing it around more and shooting less.
One foot marginally off, seen in one frame of replay footage is not enough. At speed he's level enough to be given the benefit...thats called onside! All the science afterwards doesn't really mean much.
