Leeds only doubt is keeper Jamie Ashdown who is suffering with a thigh strain, giving first team choice Kenny his usual starting position between the sticks. It is unclear whether Warnock is going to stick with his Cup team, or the starting XI that have taken 12 out of the last 15 points. Lets not underestimate Chelsea who have a reserve side of players like Sturridge they can call upon
They've got a selection problem all right, but it's not about worrying which players to pick, it's about worrying which players they've got Many of their squad are injured or suspended. The rest of them are jet lagged, knackered and crocked. Expect a full youth team that will crumble under the pressure or be outclassed by the likes of Thomas and Diouf.
I so hope you're right, Marko, but I think Elland got it right when pointing out the Spanish waiter's desire to prove himself. FACT!!!!
I honestly don't think the circumstances could be stacked more in our favour. Maybe only if Daniel Sturridge is confirmed to be injured on Wednesday, they are keeping a watch on him. If somebody were to get injured during training tomorrow, that would stack it more in our favour. I do think this is the best chance we'll have to get into the semi finals and possibly the final, maybe even silverware, until we're at least back in the Premier League.
Let's not forget that, in essence, Chelsea really are just a small club who've bought trophies since about a decade ago. Before Abramovich, they'd only won the league a grand total of twice. Their club idols were non-entities. They'd done absolutely nothing of real note in Europe, and also only won a similar number of domestic cups to us. Their modern-day support mainly comes from African children according to demographic data. In England, their fanbase is derived from the prawn sandwich brigade of Surrey and Berkshire, and their siblings no doubt support that other scum club we hate, and they no doubt have great banter talking about their two teams: the great success-purchasers who pioneered the modern football the real supporter despises. The same clubs who were part of the early-90s conspiracy to end the English league system and create a TV-subsidized 'super league' for the five 'big clubs' - something they did in effect achieve in the end when they broke into the BSkyB Oligarchy at the apex of the First Division. In England itself, they're still outnumbered by Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal and Leeds fans - the four true big clubs. Official site hits data and Twitter trend levels confirm this. Similarly in Norway, they can't even touch our numbers: please log in to view this image It's only in thick, impressionable countries like Nigeria, Ghana and China that people support them, giving off this illusion that they're well-supported worldwide, and that's only because the marketing execs and signings like Essien and Obi Mikel have drilled it into their third-world skulls. People who really care about football with a passion don't go near the toxic stain of a club that they are, except their ever-dwindling core of old boys who'll be singing Istanbul in the ale-holes of Wakefield in approximately 36 hours, and smashing up the top windows of our public transport when they're bussed into Beeston with the Leeds hordes holding their noses at the dog-like stench of the middle-aged cockney bastard, and wondering why they never turned up in the 90s and 00s. I don't care about 1970, I just care about our Leeds beating those southern ****ing ponces who've poached Leeds kids from our academy (and ruined them) and introduced their bland, red-rose-bearing rag of a shirt to our county's fan demographic in recent years. Who've been a true lesson for our sport on what the evils of financial doping are. Who've fluked their way to the European Cup that is rightfully ours and has been since 1975 until we have the chance to defend it. The charge-list is endless. There's no low they wouldn't stoop to in order to get their mincing hands on another cheapened honour. Time to play like a team of Rodolph Austins and smash John Terry's boys to smithereens, and win ourselves this league cup. Send them home from Elland Road ruing that they ever went there and with crippling depression at the pathetic, hollow wasting of their football-supporting lives. Back to the Bates-afflicted songless pit they play at somewhere in Fulham. SHOOT THE CHELSEA SCUM.
Now that is a song I'd like to hear tomorrow - "Little village in/near Fulham, you're just a little village in Fulham" as they rattle another one in. So long as we give them a game, that's all I ask. Yes, it is our best chance of winning a trophy, & yes this is our best chance in ages to beat them. But even their 2nd string are still quite useful & would in all honesty almost all get into our team. The crowd banter & singing should be interesting. Will both sets of fans be singing anti Bates stuff, or is here revered at their place?
Been really busy recently so not had time for match threads. Be back on it this weekend hopefully. I reckon we'll snatch it 2-1. Think we need to keep an eye on players like Oscar and Sturridge if we are to win.
To say that we don't have a 'proper' support is fairly ignorant on your part tbh. Yes due to our success we have attracted more modern fans but we clearly do have a huge number of core supporters. Anyway our 3000 will sing their hearts out. I don't know what the old bill are going to do with us as we get to Wakefield at 5! I doubt your fans will get to Elland Road that early to welcome us though I may b ewrong. I for one won't be singing Istanbul chants.
Just seem this for the first time today ..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsdQxvQ85zU Might explain how Varney's playing these days! Other thing is that JT seems to have walked away from this vicious assault without punishment. For a head-high, studs up stamp too!! Can you imagine what would happen if one of our players did this on Wednesday night? Player would probably get 2 years in the jug & we'd get banned from playing in the cup for 20 years. (Am I getting too cynical in my old age?). Edit: He got booked for this one right enough. Doesn't look like he agrees with the decision. Neither do I. firing squad is more appropriate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McOxoOSuX_8
Bucks Blue, it really would take some sphericals to sing anything Turkish at our ground with only 3000 fans behind you. Not sure which would be worse - a kicking from Beesten's finest, or a night in a beeston cell via a journey c/o WYP's finest. Close call. Such silly children as might try would also find themselves banned from the Bridge for life. Let's all hope for a good game, plenty of banter, & a close win for whoever you support.... the mighty Whites in my case or that side near Fulham in yours.
There've been a few on the web already spouting off... and chill Bucks Blue, some of what I wrote was tongue-in-cheek. Nothing new...
Really looking forward to this. If we can't win let's at least give the PL another glimpse of what they're missing. I predict it will be tight whichever way it goes.
Yeah, unfortunately, you won't offer the Premier League their missing part, only a good side can do that!
Well we are making a better impact on the Championship, so we would probably be a better impact on the Premier League too!
Premier League is all about money, pedigree and fanbase. We have you beat on all 3 of those. You'd just end up in a relegation battle straight away, we're more likely to make a real impact on the Premier League. Having been at the top previously makes a bigger impact on the league than you think, and it is why teams like QPR and Wigan struggle to make any sort of mark on the league despite having money to burn.
