Just a bit of fun, I'm not at all suggesting we have any chance of promotion, but if somehow we ended up in The Premier League next year, which of our players do you think could make the step-up? Multiple choice poll, so pick as many as you believe can do so.
As you say, it is just a bit of fun, and I don't want to pull wings off butterflies, but it depends what you mean by "step-up". Any clodhopper could play in a team that is doomed to come straight down. I would define it as being worth your place in a team that has a reasonable chance of avoiding relegation (even if they lose out in the end, such as the Addicks last time we were there). Having said all that, I very much agree with the weight of votes cast so far, with the possible exception of Stephens. I know some say the Premiership would suit him better, but I remember the same being said about him once we got to the Championship, where he has been patchy as best. Before this season started I posted that Kermorgant was our only player who would be comfortable in the Premiership. He will need a great second half of the season to justify that claim, while Solly's continued development makes him a strong candidate. I am sure had you added Wagstaff and Harriott to the list they would have got at least one vote each from their loyal fans here (I won't mention any names) while I imagine you included Green just to provoke me (unless you mean the Conference Premier?).
Glad to see I'm not the only person who likes Wilson. Hamer, Solly, Morro, Wiggins, Wilson, Stephens and Kermit for me Saying that as much as I'd want us to do well would be a long and painful season in my eyes in the prem unless we brought in about as many players as we did last season.
i went hamer, solly, morro, wiggins, wilson, haynes stephens goes awol too much mid game. kermo has found his level i think. superb last year, good this year but nothing to shout about. also has age going against him
I think both Kermorgant and Stephens could make the step-up (though not set the world on fire) because of how well they both read the game. Stephens has cut out a lot of his errors this season (needlessly giving away the ball right in front of the back four/mis-placed passes to a player three yards from him etc). Kermorgant was decent against Fulham last year, and again, it is his link-up play, his vision and his passing ability which could help him make the step-up, though as has been said, his age is going against him. I didn't add Waggy, Harriott and others because I could only give 15 choices for the poll. I tried to choose the 15 players most likely to be voted for. I geniunely think Green wouldn't be too bad in The Premier League, of course he won't set the world on fire, but his ability to take on the full back and whip a cross in is what his game is all about, and something which he could probably do at any level. Geniunely suprised so many people think Wiggins could make the step-up. Prior to his injury this season I felt he was a shadow of the player from last season and didn't really seem to be adapting to The Championship as well as expected - he rarely went forward, and in my opinion his defending isn't exactly his strong point.
Can't see the poll on my iPhone but if we are talking prem class I'd say Hamer, Solly and Wiggins for sure. I think Stephens has distinct potential but jury still out. Fuller has of course been there and done that but he feels like a bit of a busted flush to me so far. Outside bets, maybe Morro and Wilson and just maybe (10% chance) Green.
