I was impressed with Toby when I went to the Ajax vs PSV game the other week, a very composed CB, similar to Jan but not on the same level (yet?) and without a sweet left peg!

Having said that, it'll be hard to find a place for Toby in the starting line up, something I think he'd expect. Kaboul and Vertonghen definitely better and I think Caulker and Dawson are at least on par with him, with Caulker having unbelievable potential.

If he joins I certainly won't be disappointed, he's a good player and someone who I'd be happy seeing in a Spurs shirt, I just think from his point of view, we may not be the best option for him.

I do like the fact Jan is talking us up though, what a signing he's been! Fantastic player on the pitch and also becoming our agent and scout for Holland! <laugh> Lets just hope he can persuade his Danish mate Eriksen to take the trip to Tottenham! :D

I know nothing about this lad, SOS. I remember you going on about him a few weeks ago though.

You'd have to wonder if he might be seen as a replacement for Dawson...

Still not convinced that AVB rates Dawson. I reckon he'll be at QPR in Jan if we get a replacement.

Yeah a Dawson replacement would seem viable :(

I agree, even though AVB recently said Daws wouldn't be sold in Jan, I honestly believe if a firm offer comes in then we could see him leave. Such a shame, I think he's a great CB and a great professional, fans (and managers) always moan about players showing no loyalty yet one that has given everything to us since signing and would probably sign a new deal in minutes of it being offered, looks set to be shown the door.

I'd love that. His first two seasons with us Gallas was great (in my opinion), an inspired signing it has to be said but this season has been one too many for him now. One of the leagues best ever CB's but he's just not up to the standard on a consistent basis anymore.

Don't need another defender, especially with Ekotto and Kaboul on their way back and I think we should keep hold of Dawson unless we get another good offer. We need another playmaker desperately and if we got an extra attacking mid/winger on top of that we'll be set :)

The press are still linking us with Llorente and Sneijder.
    What a load of bollocks.

Where did you see that, all I can find is Man City to replace Balotelli, laughably Liverpool are mentioned, but not us, which I can only breathe a sigh of relief at, as there would be 2 teams in the laughable category. Just a footnote, he's on 7m euro's, about £120k/wk

This is all I could find - http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/north-london-rivals-ready-to-battle-liverpool-for-

That would be hilarious if it happened.

    ----------------

    My 'dream' January would be:

A striker - Llorente or Huntelaar (probably Llorente as he is a) more suited to a lone striker and b) probably more viable as a transfer target than the CL-man Hunterlaar)

A CM/CAM - Moutinho or Eriksen - I wouldn't want us to go for both - that would break our bank and would be pointless as you could only ever justify playing 1 at a time. I wouldn't mind who although Joao will probably cost more.

Shipping out of deadwood - I say this every window but people like Gomes, Bentley, Gallas, perhaps even Hudd (who I don't think has ever fully recovered from his long term injury).

If we did that then I'd be stoked.

All said and done, we'll do nowt though - we rarely do decent business in January imo.

100% with you on that. Eriksen and Llorente would be my preferred choices but Moutinho and Huntelaar would be most welcome. Hudd as you say just isn't the same player, I was so pissed off at the start of the season when AVB was trying ship him out on loan but I can honestly hold my hands up and say I'm not surprised now judging by his performances this year.

I see that as a respectful comment to the club he's contracted to...refreshing! I think JV acted similarly didn't he?

Do people wanting us to sign another striker want us to play 442 then? Kind of surprised since 442 leaves us overrun in midfield against most teams.

No - the 4-2-3-1 approach is still good but it's important to have the flexibility to go all out when we need to.

And regardless - having just 2 strikers leaves you wafer thin all the time and cringing either one of them gets a hard tackle.

Adebayor limped off in the last game - that'll leave us down to 1 again.

You think we can keep Ade, Defoe and another quality striker happy if we're not even always playing 442? I don't think we can and even if we could there's far better uses of our money, like quality backup for our wingers.

Having the ability to switch up the formation is very important.

However, the next striker we need to buy has got to be quality. The only 2 in that category that are potential possibilities in Jan are Llorente and Huntelaar. - if we can't get either of those two, we should be waiting. - and in the mean time, we should be assessing this midfield situation properly and spending the money in that department instead, so we can go back to 4231. - no "square pegs in round holes" or below par midfielders anymore, thanks!!

We should go all out to get eriksen or moutinho. As I have said, I haven't seen much of eriksen, but everyone is literally creaming over him and I trust the judgement of u guys. For those reasons, I'd rather take him over moutinho due to his age. (If we can get him that is)

Been thinking about the winger situation. Do we actually need one? The players that AVB has lined up (such as wilian for example) will be another huge cost to us. Do we really need to? It basically means we're writing off Falque and Townsend.
If bale leaves, then yes, this makes sense, but I don't actually think we're desperate in that position and I'm trying to be realistic over what will actually happen in this window.

If like us to buy a winger, but I can't see it happening just yet and I think levy will want to see AVB give Falque and Townsend a decent run before he sanctions millions on a new winger.

If money is going to be spent, I'd rather we go for eriksen AND moutinho!

The fa cup kicks in as of Jan, as does the EL soon after. We'll certainly need rotation!

    One can hope!
