Never heard her do anything wrong. I remember one instance where everyone was saying Sian Massey got a decision completely wrong when it turned out she got it spot on. I think it was Liverpool vs Wolves?
Some of the decisions I've seen highlighted have been almost impossible to call in real time but replays have always shown her to be spot on in my experience.
This all boils down to the fact that if a woman is doing a job usually done by men she must be very good at it. Women who are no better than average would never make their way up the ranks.
True, true! And women have a better attention to detail than men - quite important for a lino. (not meant to be a windup comment)
Agree - she's completely there on merit. Brave girl - bet not many women would plump to go and stand in front of thousands of baying men in a role renown for receiving intense mass abuse. However, what happened to that female commentator the BBC had on for a while? The cream didn't rise to the top there - she was in my opinion a bit rubbish. Just sounded like she was doing an impression of more well-known commentators. Haven't her for a long time now.
That's the point. If you have a female commentator, she attracts notice and has to be good or it shows. Not a believer in evening things out either race or gender wise...you have to be good enough.
Jacqui Oatley, she still does a lot of stuff on radio 5 and does some commentary for the football league show I think. She wasn't brilliant on MOTD, but she wasn't that bad either, though her tone of voice was perhaps not ideal. The abuse she got was quite unbelievable.
3-1 Saints. JWP (starting instead of Lala) gets a toe-poke to start the action off, then Sunderland score a wonder goal, Lambo gets a brace, the first a shade lucky on 56 minutes, the second a classy move started by Punch on the edge of the half-way line on the 80th minute. Sunderland heads goes down and it's only a dodgy offside decision that prevents the boys from racking up a fourth in the final minute.
Can someone explain to me these type of predictions? I really don't see the point in making such precise predictions unless the idea is that if you do it 1,000 one might be remotely close to being right and you proclaim yourself to be a genius. I guess its supposed to be a bit of fun but, I really don't get it!
massey was lino for one of our games last season. the blokes around me were spouting their usual sexist rubbish until close to the end of the game she called the opposition offside after they had put the ball in our net. after that they were singing her praises. im really sick of the sexist **** i hear at football. the FA have a tough stance on racism in football so why not the same with sexism? its pathetic.
