Exaaaaactleeee Ince will sit on the bloody bench anyway. Might as well bring back Mandy to sit on the bench and buy a good player instead of Sturridge.
I do agree. Can we really not find someone around 10-15 mil that has the quality? HIguain on loan as he barely plays at Madrid now? something like that?
Ok young upcoming forwards- Agudelo ( Chivas USA- fallen off lately), Terrance Boyd ( BVB youth product- plays at Rapid Viena), Altidore- no **** that he is ****. To be fair apart from boyd there is not one American I have any confidence in up front ( new players not the old guard of Dempsey and Donovan).
Point where I said dollars btw. Unless you don't have millions, billions, and trillions in Britain? There is talk of our money changing a bit to save money. Strange that!
I think the it's more likely be around the £4-5m mark which includes the 35% discount. £4m for a bright prospect in the Championship is pretty good considering that Arsenal paid around £20m for Walcott and Ox, and with Zaha being touted at £15m. And I agree with the majority that £12m for Sturridge is quite a bit - but I'll be happy with any reinforcements in January. He's quick, versaitle, can use both feet (to some extent).
I see Ince rotating with Sterling... Ince left the club because he wanted first team action. Why would he come back if he was only on the bench?
I disagree on Sturridge but if he came, I would hope he turns out for the best. With Ince, I just think this smacks of our inability in noticing talent, who we buy, and just feels dumb. Buying back a player we let go just a year ago? It is not as if he is a Pique or Fabregas that Barca bought back who were world class players. I don't know, I think that with the fee there is much better than Ince out there but we seem to have no scouting network.
I feel your pain Bluff - I'm just desperate to get anyone in who can improve the squad so we don't have to resort to using Cole and Downing. You never know with Ince, he may turn out to be top class. Pique was a talented youngster when he left and returned to Barca - I dont think many people expected him to turn out so well. Similar to Fabregas - left when he was around 15/16. The only reason he went was because he wanted more first team action, it's not as if we wanted to let him go. But at least he's player who understands the philosophy of the club as he's been brought up through our academy. I'd be lying if I said Sturridge and Ince are the top of my lists for January, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with our new and revamped scouting network if they all they come up with are the two players mentioned above. But I do genuinely believe they would improve the squad and improve the attack - disregarding prices and other players available.
Lots of different stories as to why he left...a) he wasn't good enough for the first team b) his attitude was bad c) he wanted more money. I don't know exactly why other the various rumours you hear around the city (most of which are bullshit) but what I saw of him when he was here was decent but miles off first team standard. Plus it's a bit of a misnomer to wrap it up as a £4 mill deal. If we don't buy him and he goes elsewhere for £6 mill we still get £2 mill of that. So it's costing us £4 mill plus the two mill we won't get if he goes elsewhere. As for Sturridge I still don't get it mate. I want him to be great but I've never seen anything to suggest he's anything other than a ball greedy, useless lump of ****e. As I've said to you before his only real asset is pace and our current formation just does not suit pace at all. Will BR adapt the formation to suit him? Well he wouldn't do it for our last vastly over-priced player so I doubbt he's going to do it for Sturridge.
I'll take that. I think you have some in the French league who could easily do a job, Russian league, South American lads on the up. Just feel as if we aren't even scouting, just ok what do we see here in a 200 mile radius.
I think I read it in the Echo once that Ince was offered a contract but he rejected it for first team opportunities. I saw a few reserve matches and I thought he was pretty good - good pace, trickery, technical and can score goals. I believe his performances in the Championship have definitely helped his cause and has shown he can perform at a higher level than the reserve team. Can he raise his game further to PL standard? Who knows - but at £4m, it's worth finding out. I know what you mean about Sturridge - I've seen good bits about him but I've also seen the bad bits. But I think Rodgers can get the best out of him. For £12m, I think we can get a player who doesn't need to be trained moulded, and can offer more consistency. But Sturridge is the name that is doing the rounds and I can see the potential. With regards to our tactics and pace - I completely agree with you. But I think that is a problem with the personnel rather than the tactics. When you have someone like Joe Cole, Shelvey or Suso out on the wing - there will be a lack of penetration as they are not the sort of players to use pace to beat a man whilst Shelvey and Cole lack the intelligence and technique to beat their men - this leads to the lack of penetration, and cause of simple but pointless passing around the box. Take Enrique as an example - our attack looks so much better when he plays as he uses power and pace to drive into the box and create chances. We just need another couple of similar players with the same level of penetration and drive to be really effective - hence why I feel Sturridge and Ince could both do a job as they have the confidence/arrogance to beat their men and drive into the box.
and they are doing WOEFUL. Just shows with a bit of scouting you can get good quality. I will continue to persist with my man Pierre from St. Etienne but I don't think anyone at Liverpool is listening! I hear Hulk might be run out of Zenit.....
I know mate but at least I stick around for the debate eh I'm about to depress you lot even more now: If we don't strengthen well next month and we do finish the season in a similar position to where we are now we won't be spending next summer strengthening. We'll spend it replacing our best players. How long will our top boys hang around in all honesty? Players like Suarez, Agger, Lucas, Johnson, Reina and Skrtel deserve to be playing at the top level.
