Well whoever we are in for I would imagine with Premiership football well on the way to being secured for next season we might be looking to spend a bit more than if we were staring a relegation dogfight in the face, and we will certainly be a more attractive proposition for potential signings that most of our rivals.

    Exciting times indeed <ok>

much depends on the next couple of weeks results. a win and a draw from our next four games (which is very realistic) would see us effectively safe again but a bad run of four defeats would see us slip back towards the pack, though even with a shocking run over the next 8 games, it probably wouldn't be till march that we would even consider a drop into the bottom three being possible!

We are 10 unbeaten. why strengthen the midfield, particulary as Butterfield has not played really either. Another striker yes!

i was thinking the same thing the other day, will the club sanction a slightly higher transfer budget in Jaunary. For me, the interesting thing will be will we sell any fringe players.

its simple. if there is a player available who is better than someone currently playing, we buy them. if that happens to be another midfielder, it matters not. that's what strengthening is all about. i can't see us being able to afford another striker in january unless its more of a stop-gap signing. do we really want that?

How much money do you guys actually have to spend in terms of transfer budget??

I imagine there is no definitive answer as any club with any sense will look at deals on a player by player basis but do you fan's have a ballpark figure??

My thoughts exactly and I said so on another thread earlier. CH seems to prefer the 'lone striker' role, so why waste a considerable chunk of any transfer budget on someone else who is more likely than not to be sat on the bench most of the time?? <ok>

Yes but Butterfield is that immediate strengthening and that is my point and he continues to get rave reviews. We cannot play everyone and we have a very settled set up right now. It is a moot point I guess.

butterfield plays in the hoolahan role though. surely he is his eventual competition/successor. if there is someone we can buy better than both hoolahan and butterfield*, we should still buy them, regardless. if you can improve any area of the team, you should do it. it doesn't have to be in any order. you never know when the right player will be available.

*we won't be able to afford that player as they will cost £10m+. just an example <ok>

blimey. no idea mate. we don't NEED to buy, so we can be stingy with our cash. i think we'll see one or two come in, if only to shake things up a little and keep players on their toes, but i can't see us spending more than £5m, unless a really top, top striker is on the cards - then we may bite the bullet and go for it.

we spent £8-10m in the summer, i agree it's probably about £5m but would depend if someone comes available that CH wants it might be more. we may get some momey from outgoing players too although that will be much smaller

agree that signing Garrido permanently is a priority, and i would guess that any striker arriving will be from abroad where you get much more for your dosh.

Wages will become the issue if you are spending £8-10M on a striker.

That striker will not be on £20k a week like the rest of the squad. Will we break the wage structure in January? I doubt it.

I hope we won't break the wage structure because that could affect the team spirit and set a precedent that would be negative in the medium to long term

depends where the striker is from though. if he comes from abroad, £20k a week might be a pay rise for them

I guess everyone looks forward to a new signing and with the two windows it creates even more excitement. We took HK on loan but unfortunately have seen nothing of him. Supporters look to the club to spend and I guess CH would love to dip his beak but there is obviously more to it than just picking up the phone and quoting silly figures. The CH signings have all impressed to varying degrees so I put my money on him making the correct decision.

I believe the Garrido deal is with an option to buy at the end of the season, but that his fee is dependent on how many games he plays and our league position. This mean we probably won't sign him until the end of the season, but he's our until then anyway so no big deal.
