He made a bit of a mess of his career, if his ambition is to play loads of games, improve as a footballer and win stuff...
But if his ambition was just to be a rich twat, he's achieved that <ok>

I think it's the former personally, he's having to go back to Norwich to get games and he's showing how good he is again. Bit of a shame we didn't go for him when Spurs wanted shot... Would take N'Zog, Bassong, and Carroll back if he were offered... Is that bad?

With Bassong I have no problem with him wanting out or wanting to take the money on offer. Its the way he went about it, and his refusal to play in pre season games. Hughton played this down of course saying it was because he came back late but I have my doubts and think that was Hughton trying to maintain harmony. Regardless he could have left quietly. Him and Martins etc were fine to leave but they all just failed to show the respect to the club who they'd been quite happy to take money from.

If Bassong was that much of a mercenary, any ideas why CH would sign him for us?
Surely that kind of attitude could be damaging to a team, and CH strikes me as a sensible manager who wouldn't risk the harmony of a team, however good the player was.

You folks obviously know more about CH, as he was with you longer than he has been with us.

Not really surprising in the modern age of football that players show little respect to the club... It is a bit perverse they kiss the badge, swear undying love etc, and then leave... Maybe they just like reading fan mail?

I can just see Demba relaxing at night in his bed, holding a mug of cocoa in one hand and examining a vial of my blood in the other... Awwww

I'm not an old guy, but I'm already disconnected with players as people who care for the club in the same way I do, or even respect it beyond the pay-cheques they get every month. As such, I don't really care about history when it comes to signing players, but I appreciate some people have better memories <laugh>

Simple really that one. Quality. He is a top class centre back. Hughton will look at the overall picture at our club at the time and sympathise with behaviour of some. He'll think its forgiveable, fans will always see it differently. He was fairly young too. 23 or so. Without being disrespectful to clubs like ourselves or Norwich, beggars can't be choosers when it comes to players of that quality.

I will call the likes of Bassong, N'Zogbia but they were/are quality footballers. Them two would be the perfect transfer window signings ironically. Wouldn't be against either coming back if Pardew decided they were the guys, however probably better players and enough options out there to move on.

Every player in the league is a mercenary to some degree... Just as most people are technically whores if not in the way that keeps Jimiley satisfied...

Bassong is a good player, that's why CH signed him. A good player worth every penny of the transfer fee. Does he care about your club? As long as he's playing regularly and you don't go down, I don't see him leaving asap. He might get itchy feet when big teams come calling, but given Spurs let go, that might not happen again. I don't regard him as a major attitude in the dressing room. He was a very young man when he joined us, he stood in at CB and was one of our better players the year we went down. We were disappointed he left, but who wouldn't leave for Spurs?

CH is a great manager for team-spirit, Bassong will enjoy football under him and so will the rest of your players. Being settled probably goes along way to building a relationship with the club, so it's not implausible Bassong could become a Norwich legend, even. Our club was in meltdown when he left, we only just have stability, I'm not surprised players left and didn't feel much for the club.

Hughton being Hughton and being the goodwill ambassador.

If we got those and lost nobody, I'd be able to do the Han Solo wall thing with Tash... Only he'd be frozen in my jizz...

But to be honest, Bassong would be a £10 million value signing, and that's before Norwich add the £15 mill on because they don't need to sell. Better targets elsewhere, but I would have loved to see him back. Still wish him well to be honest.

It's pretty ironic that Chris Hughton has led Norwich City into the top 10 of the Premier League... we're not really experiencing the benefit of Pardew's 'experience' thus far. Chris must be allowing himself a wry smile. <ok>

Fair play to Norwich City football club - they are very likeable and seem like a genuine and decent family club.
No sleaze or controversy... no upsetting the fans from what I can see.

    Fair play to them... <cheers>
