important news for people going Boxing Day BBC - Tube strike on Boxing Day confirmed by Aslef union Breaking news graphic London Underground drivers are to strike on Boxing Day, and 18 and 25 January in a row over bank holiday pay, the Aslef union has said.
PUBLISHED 15:35 17th December 2012 by @OfficialQPR Baggies fixture goes ahead despite tube strike … THE R'S Boxing Day fixture against West Bromwich Albion will go ahead as scheduled, despite Tube services across the capital being affected by a drivers strike. The Barclays Premier League clash against the Baggies will kick-off at 3.00pm, although supporters are advised to allow extra time for their journeys to and from Loftus Road. Buses will be running on the usual Sunday / Bank Holiday service on the day of the fixture, whilst parking in the borough will be free. Supporters who are unable to attend the fixture owing to the tube strikes will be entitled to a full refund. To obtain a refund on match tickets not subsequently required, tickets must be in possession of the box office no later than 24 hours prior to the time of the advertised kick off.
Well that's a pain in the R's. I'm over for Christmas, and I would have loved to get to the game, but it looks like it's not to be
As if £40-50K is not enough for a 35 hour week!!!!! They are breaking their contract as terms and conditions are laid down about Bank Holiday working. They want Triple Pay and a Day Off in Lieu. Dock them their pay if they don't turn up and give it to a Homeless Charity!!
Taxi! What a pain in the arse. Traffic will be all clogged up, Westfields, where I like to park, packed out with the sales, I will be feeling bloated and hungover and will have to leave i.e get up earlier, ruining my 'just in time' ethos. Mate of mine (semi retired) has just started working part time for London Underground (previously ran his own business). Says its like the 70s in union attitudes. He works 4 hours a day, spends most of it waiting for colleagues to turn up, then they insist he has a tea break when they turn up. I've come over all Richard Littlejohn.......it's deeply unpleasant.
I am working Boxing Day evening from 19:00 until 00:00 for double pay and I am not complaining, thats life get on with it
Not complaining about what they get in their contract gimmethickerhoops, just the fact that they are breaking it by going on strike. Firmly believe that if you work Bank Holidays you should be paid extra but if you have a contract then that is what you should get. Not go on strike (blackmail) just because you can. Still think they are overpaid for what they do because the can blackmail their bosses.
They are wrong it will be running unless the strike hits that too ... It feeds Westfield shopping and on Boxing Day it will be madness anyhow... I hope not to be in the country as usual so massive respect to those who make it. What a nation .. spend like crazy prior to 25th and on the 26th out again to try and buy the same crap for a more realistic price. If the strike is certain watch how many sales get switched to the 24th?
Shock horror What do the moaning barstewards want now ffs? Wouldn't mind but they already have one of the best paid jobs going, fcuk the lot of them
The London Overground is part of the Underground network so that'll be out as well. I was hoping to go from Norwood Junction and have a few pints but that's f*cked it...
I know someone who is a "driver" on the Central Line. Apparently on that line the trains are remotely controlled and all he does is open the doors for £60k plus. With an attitide like that I'm shocked Mark Hughes didn't sign him up!
That's what I'm saying bruv I'm in a better paid job but these fcukers get it for doing naff all, not only that they have the cheek too hold the whole of london to ransom as they are not happy with the half a year annual leave they get already Bob crow has a lot to answer for and if I saw him in the street I would give him a cheeky dig in the ribs to let him know what it feels like when these clowns are on strike
No London Overground services on Boxing Day at all. Same goes with First Great Western - including the Greenford branch line which is out of action from the evening of Christmas Eve up until January 2nd! All National Rail info here: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/seasonal/Christmas_2012/index_custom.html but I can tell you the vast majority of train operators won't be running a service on Boxing Day.
