    I'm probably asking for trouble posting this but in the warm glow of post-match satisfaction I was thinking back to when Mick was in charge of the team with two-bob and some green shield stamps to spend on players and I have to admit this crossed my mind;

Now that we're safe if I was given the choice between finishing above the mags but in the process sending Mick and his team down or finishing below the mags but in the process Wolves were safe I'm not sure it's a straightforward decision for me.

I don't have any ties to Wolves... I like them okay and I always found their fans to be okay (however much we can know about 'fans' from the few individual encounters we have) but I do have a lot of respect and affection for Mick.

So - okay I know a lot of you (most of you?) probably could never even tolerate such thoughts but are we really saying that an extra place in mid-table with a chance to finish above our noisesome neighbours is the most important thing?

I suppose I might be in a minority of one but now we're safe, with no chance of actual benefit from the extra points I think I'd chose to give Mick a break and live with the consequences... to be frank as I don't really respect the mags fans en masse so it is really quite uniportant to me where they finish.

beat them, but its got nothing to do with the mags I just want us to finish as high up the league as possible (even if that in the end is behind the mags).

better league placing = better prize money, more TV time next year so more money, attract a better player, more confidence going into next season (whoever the manager is).

i want us to beat them, but nothing against wolves.

hopefully they will beat w. brom today and give themselves a chance of staying up.

as after us their last game is home to blackburn, now that could well be the game to see who goes down.

so for MMc take 6 points out of 9, win your 2 home fixtures and you've got a chance..

west ham, wigan and hopefully blackburn are the 3.

Thought about this yesterday. Like MM and want him to succeed but he's gone. We are SAFC, lets get up that table.

Dreaming of a 5-0 win, likewise hope Chelsea do the same to the scumbags from up the road.

Nothing against MM but we need to beat them, simple as that. After the terrible run of results we've had, SAFC need to be putting the smiles back on people's faces and the only way to do that is by winning games. Finishing above the mags would be nice but for me a bit of a hollow victory given the disappointing season it's turned out to be after showing early promise. Higher league position also helps attract new players. No sentimentality from me so when MM and Wolves roll into town, we need to be going all out for a win!

Why do people always say this? There's nothing to play for mid-table side at the end of the season. Yes there is, each place is worth at least another £500,000 and although it's not that much it does all add up also I see it quite important because if we want to attract the quality of players like Sessegnon and Muntari then we need to finish up as high as we can, players of high standard don't want to come to a club that isn't progressing.

IMO there's still a lot to play for and of course theres the incentive of finishing above the mags.

If we are able to improve by another three or four places, then that would be another couple of million 'prize money' which would pay the wages of another signing. So as much as I respected MM for managing us on the proverbial shoestring, we ned the team to be focused on finishing as high as they can.

I have had a feeling for a number of weeks now that Mick McCarthy is destined to be relegated at Sunderland. I like Mick, and I believe that he has the respect of the vast majority of Sunderland fans, but that shouldn't stop us going all out for victory.

Love big Mick and agree that he had **** all financial backing during his time with us, BUT each place up the league table is worth £800,000 to the club, so we have to get a result against them to improve our financial stability.

For his sake, I hope Wolves do stay up

Exactly as Quillips says, it's 500k a place in the Premier League, and i'm genuinely hopeful we'll get 6 points now after yesterday.

What i will say, is if i had to lose to anyone and help them out it would be Wolves.

Reasons? MM for starters, an honest and honourable, often hilarious fella, great fans, noisy and passionate (i feel the premier is a better place for BOTH black country clubs), and a cracking away day as well.

With the result today, they may well not need another win to stay up anyway.
